We did adjust. Buck Sweep addressed that for you above.
It may not have been in the way you wanted, but we adjusted.

not a recipe for winning
No it's not. And both were issues on Auburn's two huge TD plays.
eta: people were in position both times, so that tells me they knew what they were seeing so were taught correctly, but they failed to execute it properly.

as a former defensive lineman I tell people all the time that the offenses I hated playing against the most are the ones where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Your diagrams show exactly that as I feel for our RDE. He has been taught all his life when that guard is coming to trap you squeeze and close the gap. If he doesnt then there is a huge hole inside, when he does he loses contain around the end.
Yep, that's the nature of option football. Auburn isn't running the triple option...yet...but Veer and Midline are in Malzahn's bag of tricks if he wants to use them.
Simple math...
4 WR means you have to cover 4 WRs. That leaves 7 players to deal with 5 OL, 1 blocking back and 1 QB which equal's 7. And you only have 7 in the box if you choose to walk a S down vs 4 wide. Meaning 1 on 1 tackling at best if we try to block everyone we can block with 6 blockers. Now, if we double team at the point of attack (which we do often), and leave one unblocked, and run 2 potential runners at him...he's 2 on 1 at the LOS...that's a win every time if the offense executes, and you're still left with only one player to make the tackle if you play all your assignments right every play.

we picked to shut down the passing game
In that pre-game interview Chavis said he hoped Auburn would pass "50 times"...
...it was a strange comment in that he did nothing to tempt them to pass ??

It was clear to me, that they respected Auburn's ability to pass enough that they weren't willing to sell out with no safeties. As I noted, in the second long TD play, LSU appeared to be in Cover 4. Again, I'll say it...without selling out, and risking huge passing plays, LSU's defense did a pretty dang good job of containing Cam. Our yards came mostly on big plays.
Also, it's not like it was every a huge lead...if you're going to risk big plays...I think it's not stupid coaching to risk them on the ground instad of through the air, especially since Auburn has shown the ability to strike quick through the air.

Okay first of all you are wrong on your image. To depict the picture above, your image would have to look more along the lines of this:
[URL=LINK ]
and to stop it AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, we would have to have done something along these lines:
[URL=LINK ]
Of course Chavis could have probably thought of a slight more effective way to do this, but that would be a basic man to man blitz in that formation that with PROPER TACKLING, I'm sure we could've stopped Cam Newton a la Auburn's first possession.
Using your image in the picture...here is another way to stop the motion play.
[URL=LINK ]
Again...Chavis could've probably tinkered with this solution a little and probably been a lot more successful with PROPER TACKLING.
He may not have been able to stack the box due to Newton's breakaway ability, but he sure could've blitzed all day long. I would have much rather see Newton beat us with his arm than with his legs, a la inaccurate 4th down pass to a wide open receiver.

by far the stupidest comment made in this thread!

It all works because of Newton...Any other QB in the entire country would not have near!!!! the success as him. He is just a freak. Glad he will be gone...or hope so anyway.

Sorry you feel that way, but thanks for the heads up. I didn't want to flame or anything. I though LSU did a pretty good job, and simply got beat. Have a nice day.

LSU schemed for an offense that wasn't there. Simple as that. At some point the staff should have realized this.

We just saw 2 different games. besides watching Shawn Alexander run for about 290 on us I don't remember anyone running thru, around, and over us ever. He is a stud and I give Auburn all the credit for saturday but I dont think LSU had a good scheme and the rest of the sec will prove me right by playing aggressive against him.

Did you use the "img" button.
Use the "direct link" from Image Shack paste that in the pop up box when you hit the "img" button next to the message box.

Whether or not we had a good scheme is debatable.
But whether or not we should have "stacked the box" is not. That's all I was trying to say from the outset.

I'm trying guys. I know, I know. Epic fail. Once I figure out how to post pictures through imageshack or through anything I will repost it.

How is that possible, though?
I've agreed with a few people in this thread that suggested we should have blitzed more and maybe even thrown in some 5 man fronts.
My overriding point is that you can't stack the box on Auburn. It's stupid and it won't work. Not saying you suggested that.
What would you have done?

Yea OBU, I used the "img" box to the left... Man I worked so hard on fixing those pictures too..
