Just find it interesting that we were having the same convo about pap 11 months ago.

Thread title should either be changed to:
"Why doesn't Coomes start at catcher?"
or
"Why doesn't Romero start at DH?"
"Why doesn't Coomes start at catcher?"
or
"Why doesn't Romero start at DH?"

Yep. Pap came in with lots of hype and great hair, but the #s don't support the hype to date. It is still early though and I hope he has a monster year at the plate. Contrary to the hype, however, the guy's defense is not so great that it offsets a .240 BA. Let's hope he turns it around this year.

Pap is far from what he's been hyped. For some reason Mainieri doesn't think he can bench him, but it's about time he experiences a splinter or two. He has been atrocious.

Because pulmonary is an idiot. Last season after one of our biggest offensive outputs in a post game interview when asked about the explosive offense he seemed to get upset even. He said something like I hope ppl don't expect this kind of offense every night lol it's like he wants expectations as low as possible. He loves to win low scoring games, somehow to him it makes him look like a better coach. In his pre season interview last year during halftime of one if the last football games he said "I'm like an artist, every year I'm given a lump of clay and I mold it into something great". Nobody loves himself more than that guy.

Romero isn't the greatest defensive catcher but neither is Pap. Their defensive numbers are not much different and until Romero had a couple bad games at the end he was better in some areas. The biggest point is last year Romero had the 3rd highest home run pct of any LSU player since the bats were changed. Only Katz's Sr. season and Mahtooks Sr. Seasons were better. He was also the best Tiger in almost every offensive category during SEC play last season. If we had him and Big D hitting back to back in the middle of the order we'd have one of the most dangerous 1-2 power combos in the country, plus he'd provide Diechman with much needed protection especially from lefty pitchers. If we are gonna compete for a title we need to be scoring 6-8 runs a game that's usually the production that gets it done at the college level. Romero has to be in the lineup or els we'll continue to fall short when it counts.
