You must be joking? That’s a very uninformed statement. March Madness generates $650million, that is shared amongst all conferences. Games are broken into units, each unit or games won is worth $338,887 that is paid to the participating conference. That unit also has a 6 year shelf life meaning one unit this season is worth $2,033,322 over the 6 years.
So if the SEC gets 8 teams to the big dance and those 8 teams win a combined 10 games, that’s over $20 million for the conference that’s split evenly amongst the schools.
Also basketball sold around 8,000 season tickets and according to LSUsports.net the average for 18 homes games was 9,318 paid.
That’s basically the same as baseball.
So basketball makes more money and if we invested in it could substantially make more money then baseball ever could
