Clemsons o line isnt loaded with 5 stars to match bama's 5 star guys.
Is it strength and conditioning that makes the difference.
Is it scheme/ coaching
Or do our guys just flat out suck at blocking?

Which of the seven different OL lineups did you think sucked the most?

I’ll take option #2 Johnnie

It is both Jimmies and Joes and scheme.
We've struggled in recruiting in the trenches for several years leading to weak, thin o-lines.
On the flip side, our scheme does everything possible to expose them by running long-developing pass plays, relying on a smash-mouth running game, little-to-no tempo HUNH, few RPOs, few quick timing passes (think quick slants, button hooks, and 10 yard out passes), and max protection. While max protect can give the QB more time, it also takes away options to throw the ball to allowing the secondary to double-cover recievers and the linebackers to pin their ears back and rush the passer.
The way to overcome a weak o-line is to run a West Coast offense (2 and 3 step drop passes with short and intermediate routes) out of the shotgun with a healthy dose of zone read, play action, and RPO to boot while also going HUNH to tire out the opposing pass rush.
We supposedly couldn't do the HUNH because key members of the offense couldn't learn the audibles. When the team did run tempo, it worked really well, but they refused to stick with it.

What the hell were you watching this season? We ran it a ton

We really didn’t. When we did we looked like a modern offense.

I think switching to a zone blocking scheme this year really threw these guys for a loop. They looked lost a lot of the year.
I guess when you are used to just man on run road grading, it’s a little different.

I just posed this question, but I'll post it here as well":
How many blue-chip offensive lineman has LSU signed recently that played tackle in high school? It seems like Miles was recruiting guards to play tackle in a run-oriented offense.

Why does our o line suck?
Reason # 1: Miles has his recruiters only recruit guards. His belief was we can move them to tackle and teach them to play the position.
Reason # 2: Fmr OL coach Jeff Grimes was over-rated. His OL's never were dominant and hardly amy linemen drafted to next level. There were a few exceptions.
Reason # 3: We have seriously lacked depth on the OL. Coach O had to scour the JC ranks to bring in bodies.
Now we have a fmr NFL OL coach to help recruit and develop our OL. Our OL play should improve now.
OL Coach James Cregg has coached the OL in the NFL with the Raiders, Broncos, and Chargers.
