It's called Priceline dot com and it seems to be working fine for them.

Two big differences: Even Priceline can't get you the penthouse at regular room rates and they won't give you the room if it is reserved like a purple seat would be.

Let's think this out for a minute. If they allowed first come, first serve for the empty purple seats, I am sure there would be people running at the first sight of a open purple seat. Like someone said before, those purple seat owners can go back and forth to the lounge all game long. What's to keep someone from jumping in their seat, not knowing they are coming back. That, is not that big an issue. Sure, just ask them to get out of your seat. Now, multiply that by several hundred seats and you can see that people would constantly be getting up and moving around. That can be a pain in the arse if you have to keep getting up to let joe blow get out of someone's seat and search for another "open" seat. Then, 10 minutes later, the next joe blow sees somone else's empty seat that just went to the lounge and it all starts over again. Wouldn't this piss you off if you paid all that money for your seats and every joe blow is racing for the next "open" seat and blocking you view as they get to those empty seats. It's just easier for LSU to keep non-purple-seat people out than to deal with the complaints from unhappy purple seat owners who do show up.

Just think of the purple seat people as a group of people who have a private party every game. Not everyone on the invitation list shows up, but the party organizer isn't just going to invite strangers to the party just because he has the extra room (seats) and food.

Maybe it was a mistake for LSU to include a nightclub with a set of bouncers in Alex Box.

I don't consider the purple seats to be the penthouses. The penthouses are the sky boxes.

Good point. Should general admission people demand entrance to the vacant skyboxes?

I don't think there is a single person in this thread that asked for access to the sky boxes.

I have a feeling that if the tickets are paid for all year, LSU doesn't give a frick about if the seat has a arse in it.

LSU doesn't give a frick about fans in general.

they know we will pay for tickets whatever price they are in the middle of a near depression.

You may not consider them penthouses, but LSU does. Those purple seat people pay almost as much per seat as the suites cost per seat/ticket. The main difference is that each suite has it's own food and drinks as opposed to the purple seats, as a whole, share a lounge with their own food and drinks.

Just think of those purple seats as the equivalent of the club seats in Tiger Stadium. Their are ushers at Tiger Stadium elevators making sure only club members enter. Same thing at Alex Box. It's just that at Alex Box, the "club seats" are just more easily accessible.

If you don't understand that comparison and how it benefits LSU, then college athletics economics must totally blow you mind.

The anology fails because there are considerably more purple seats in Alex Box than there are penthouses in a Vegas hotel. If you want to use the analogy then call the purple seats suites. That would be more fitting.

If you can't read my previous posts then please stop accusing me of having an inferior intellect. I've stated many, many, many times over that it is in the best interest to keep the wealthier donors happy so they will keep renewing their season tickets. That's on the level of realizing fire is hot.

Of course it's about money with LSu, but that doesn't explain why you should give a damn about somebody sitting in your seat when you aren't there.

Because someone paid $2300 for those seats, that's why. Do you move from the upper deck in TS to sit in empty Exxon seats on the 50? No? Then you shouldn't in Alex Box either.

I think why you're not getting is this: YOU AREN'T PAYING THE $3K. Pay the $3K and then see how you feel.

Like the other guy, I have seatsdown the line and I don't move to seats under the grandstand. I didn't buy those seats.

I've sat in the purple seats before. The first time I sat there, I was never approached. The second time, hen the marshall asked if I had a ticket, I told him no and that I was a student. He told me I could stay as long as I did not act obnoxious and if anyone came, I would move. This is was in the fourth inning of the McNese game and for both games the seats were almost completely empty. For the northwestern game my friends and I were kicked out of the GREEN seats above the dugout in the fourth inning and told we could comeback in the fifth.

last season, during the app st. game, me and my girl moved to the 50 yard line seats, about 20 rows up because it was VACANT.

my stance is, if people aren't going to show up to the games, LSU has already got their money, who cares if I sit in a seat that is reserved for them?

THEY AREN'T SITTING IN IT!

if they came by and gave me "the look" or asked me to move, I would respectfully get up, like I have done before.

I just love having this argument because it's indefensable from a personal perspective unless you are a season ticket holder and you just want to make sure nobaody has fun while you are absent (greed and jealousy) OR you are LSU trying to sell season tickets for a premium.

You couldn't be more wrong.

YOU voluntarily entered into a contract with LSU when you purchased your ticket. Your ticket grants you certain rights and priveledges. You are attempting to collect rights and priveledges in excess of what you paid for when you try to "upgrade" your seat. You have NO STANDING. Whether or not someone is in that seat is irrelevent. Pay for what you want, and take only what you pay for. It is a simple concept. One that is increasingly foreign to most Americans these days.
