re: Why do the computers favor the Big 12 over the SEC?

Also the BCS handicapped the power of the computers when they decided that margin of victory could no longer be a factor. All the computers can go off of now is wins and losses and who beat who, once you start looking at 120 teams and the circular effect that happens, you end up with the conference with the best OOC benefits a LOT. Just the way it works.
Here is what the Sagarin system rates team using the Margin of Victory opposed to the version that the BCS uses from his system.
(Without Margin of Victory BCS FORMULA)
1.LSU
2.Bama
3.Oklahoma State
4.Arkansas
5.Kansas State
6.Oklahoma
7.Baylor
8.South Carolina
9.Oregon
10.Boise State
(With Margin of Victory)
1.Alabama
2.LSU
3.Oklahoma
4.Oklahoma State
5.Oregon
6.Stanford
7.Wisconsin
8.Boise State
9.Michigan
10.Texas A&M

FWIW I actually switched over to Vandy vs. UT Satruday night to watch a close game... then watched most of Baylor vs. OU to finish out my night... LSU vs. Ole Miss was boring by the second quarter.
There was NOTHING boring about LSU beating the crap out of Ole Miss. I loved and watched every minute of it.

Yea, the SEC has never used this line...

That's just demonstrably untrue - how many BCS conference champions will be sitting home, alone, in the dark watching the big game if LSU and Bama win out? All of them.
Why is LSU projected to go if we beat Arky, but lose to UGA, regardless of what everybody else does? BCS rankings, both computer and humans, show a preference for teams who play against and defeat a tougher slate of games.
LSU does not get into the big game in 2007 without the win against VT, as well as the outcome of dozens and dozens of game affecting our computer score the final weekend.

Because outside of the top 3 or 4 teams this is the worst group of SEC teams in recent memory.
Auburn, Ole Piss, Moo State, Kentucky, Florida and Tennessee are just dreadful
Vandy is better but not good
USCe is much diminished after losing Lattimore and UGA is feasting on bottom feeders
He'll even arKansas has only one Top 25 win over USCe and that was after Lattimore got injured

2011 has been great and the 11 - 0 is fantastic... but all the double digit wins are not nearly as entertaining.
Idk man, I loved crushing Florida, auburn, ole miss and beating Oregon and west Virginia by double digets. It's fun when it's a legit team. Now western Kentucky

Have they won their conference championships yet? Okay thanks, bye.

The big 12 had a nice setup in the non-conference. They played several solid teams that really had no chance of beating them. Tulsa lost to three big 12 teams and then proceeded to win the rest of their game. The big 12 had a lot of things like this work out in their favor this season. Also the big 12 was 9-1 in non-conference games decided by less than a touchdown. Iowa state won like 3 non-con games by 1 point. the computers aren't allowed to use margin of victory so they see a pretty good Iowa state team. The breaks just kind of fell in the big 12's direction this year.

i guess that they want some variety in the bcs bowls. I don't think it is very fair to have the big east winner in the bcs. I hope we will see arkansas, bama, and lsu in the bcs. i am confident every team will smoke the other opponent unlesss....rematch
Posted on 11/21/11 at 2:26 pm to beaverfever
Three of the SEC's five OOC losses came from Ole Miss and Kentucky, which are the two worse teams in the conference. We have 12 teams and the Big 12 has ten...hard to really compare the two conferences when they are not even.

Uhhh... nobody has yet, but I can guarantee that at least one of LSU and Bama won't too.
ETA: Correction! Stop the presses! TCU and Arkansas State have.

Are you really saying the either LSU or Bama won't win the SEC? That's a pretty obvious statement that I think a 1st grader could make with a high level of certainty.
