I think everyone should stand... I mean no one's going to force you to say the pledge, but not standing is just a way to bring attention to yourself imho

So if we refer to Muhammad Ali's Olympic gold medal we should call him Cassius Clay?

Looks like a solid point to me.

And seriously, it was such a great day. The Rant shouldn't be bickering about this.

Exactly. What if he did something like this in one of the Muslim coutries? What if he would have disrespected that Taliban this way.

Since if had disrespected his country in Iran or Syria he would have had his hand chopped off means that he should stand up in the U.S. for the national anthem? That statement completely ignores the entire point of our Constitution.
People died to protect these rights. That it pisses you off is not relevant - it's all the more reason to protect his right to "take a stand." Again, he's strange. In this country, that's not supposed to be a strike against you.

Those who understand what true freedom is about are with you. Ergo, I'm with you.

Again, I'm not pissed off! I just don't understand why you would want to take a stand against the country that affords him the right to worship as he pleases. He should be grateful that he has this right and stand up and show some respect. I mean is he with us or against us?

So you agree with everything your government does?

OH MY GOD. Did you seriously just pull this doozie out? Come on, how much of a backwoods ignoramus do you have to be to promote such a blatantly wrong position.

Thanks Wiki,
What should be more important on this forum is that CJ, AbdulRauf had a wicked crossover, unlimited range and was the most exciting LSU player since the Pistol.

Listen he has the right to do what he wants. I agree that this is one of the things that makes our nation great. I just think its disrespectful. Thats all.

Yeah he was a scoring machine. I didn't mean to offend anyone. No need for name calling. This discussion should be on the Political talk board.

It's disrespectful, of course. That was the point. I do not agree with the man. But this is America. It's the one place on the globe where you can make a "statement" like that and SHOULD be afforded at least a minimum level of understanding. You want to think he's an arse, fine. But at least he has an opinion - there have been plenty of LSU athletes to make their way through the system that haven't "grown" as a person at all.

All I know is he was the most amazing player I ever saw in person.....if he didn't score he got fouled everytime he had the ball. I never before or since saw anyone draw fouls that perfectly. IMO greatest LSU player in my lifetime since Pistol. I don't care what his name is or how he feels about the USA.

"CJ is still playing in Europe right?"

He is playing in the Saudi Arabia professional league. He is actually quite a star there. This may seem like I am being sarcastic, but I'm not. I taught him when I was a grad asst. at LSU and thought he was a really nice guy.

I was at the Samford v Davidson game today and some people were comparing Stephan Curry to CJ...I told them they were absolutely clueless of what they spoke.

Wish he had stayed through at least his junior year, his jersey would probably be in the rafters. At least I hope it would be...

Why did they list CJ as Mahmoud??
He didn't change his name until after he left LSU, correct??

For the same reason UCLA( LEW-CLA ) calls Lew Alcindor , KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR , that Oregon calls Bouncing Bobby Moore , AHMAD RASHAD , that
LSU calls Domanick(sp)Davis , DOMANICK WILLIAMS , etc. , because it's their chosen and legal names even though they all changed their names after college ! Maybe the Universities don't go change all the names in the record books , but when they choose to honor a former athlete they show respect for them by using the name the honorees have chosen for themselfs.

In other words if you were a star athlete at LSU named I.M. Stupid , but in the pros you changed it to I.M. SMART . If LSU were to honor you they would do it as I.M. SMART because that is your chosen & legal name , even though the LSU fan base would know U.R. Stupid , er that is , I.M Stupid !

Speaking of stupid , I'm trying to make out what this thread is trying to say and what direction it's taken. I think I've got it ! No one has actually said that LSU shouldn't honor CJ. Only that since he did something as a pro , several years ago , that some posters expressed disagreement with ,
LSU could lessen their angst by honoring him , but only by using his old name. You know , kind of like honoring him & disrespecting him at the same time! U.R.Stupid

He couldn't...I was with him the day he decided to leave. It was a very difficult situation.
