LSU has a bad history of missing on North La guys. More recently Dunn whose at Baylor, Anderson at Okie St., Millsaps who went to LaTech, and Von Wafer who went to FSU, just to name a few.

Very true, and sad. If we remotely had the same scouting and lock down abilities in the state as football we'd be a top 15 perennial team

Better question is why did LSU let Elvin Hayes get away?
Imagine! Maravich at guard, Hayes at the PF......maybe Don Chaney at the point??

LSU in those days was lily white. The only blacks you saw were working on campus. Think of all the good players and indeed students LSU missed.

Malone was really under the radar in high school, I still closely followed North La HS sports in those days and didn't hear about him until he got to Tech.

Dale Brown said that he wasn't SEC material. That is not sarcasm. He actually said that.

Malone's mother and grandmother could not stand Dale Brown's arrogance during his home visit. He committed to Eddie Sutton at Ark. and was a Prop 48 acad. casuality. He sat out his first year, gained 25 lbs and the rest is history.

Why is it assumed that every Louisana player who turns out to be a star was somehow allowed to get away by LSU?

Maybe he developed after high school or did not have the academics

Could be scholarship limitations.
