He was a good guy. Use to one of my coaches at Westgate.

Corey Raymond
Position: Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Alma Mater: Louisiana State University
Hometown: New Iberia, LA

Corey Raymond is entering his third year as a member of the LSU strength and conditioning staff. He works with the football strength and conditioning program.

Prior to joining the LSU staff, Raymond served as the Defensive Coordinator and Head Strength Coach at Westgate High School in New Iberia, LA. Raymond graduated from Louisiana State University in May of 1992 with a degree in Liberal Arts. While at LSU, Raymond was a 4 year starter at cornerback for the LSU football team. After graduation, Raymond entered the NFL with a career that spanned 6 years. He played with the New York Giants from 1992-1995 and the Detroit Lions from 1995-1998

he wanted the db coach job and didn't get it. The guy who got the job is one of the best in the country. Understand?

Right on target. We upgraded our entire defensive staff significantly. He didn't make the cut.

Corey was a teammate of mine in high school.

Watched him in Tampa a couple of times when Detroit was in town, and had the chance to meet several of the Lions, including Barry Sanders.

You listed his resume. Do you see anything that would lead you to believe that getting the DB job was the next step in his progression as a coach?

He understands that he needed some experience as a position coach in Div. 1 prior to taking on that position at an elite program, especially with the added pressure this job is going to have this year.

I'm not saying he was happy, he bleeds purple and gold, but I'm certain he understands.
