Why did Jimbo’s contract not have a buyout clause?

Was it his idea? Did he want to make it easier to leave Texas A&M? Will Texas A&M try to restructure his contract to include a buyout clause in an effort to make it harder for him to leave?

Why would he sign a contract worse than his current one?

They gave Jimbo whatever it took to sign him. That means he got the Saban contract treatment. All the risk put on the school. None on the coach. It’s what it takes for schools to get the hottest names when they want their guy these days. Alleva on the other hand settled on a cheap and easy O. We’ll see how that pans out in the long haul.

Because Woodard told Jimbo LSU was going to hire him as their next AD and he wanted Jimbo to have an easy exit from A&M to follow to LSU.

Nah, I just made it up. I thought the sarcasm was obvious.

Eta: Sorry.

That’s exactly what I was wondering.

Because he’s getting $70 million. If he wants to walk away from that, why would they try to stop him?

$7.5 million per year.

They’re assuming very little risk that he leaves.

Because A&M was desperate and stupid enough to cave to his every demand to get him.
