McCoy did ok as a freshman because he came in and got mop up duty after VY would put games away.

Yep. Except for McCoy redshirting VY's last year.

Bernie Kosar - won an NC as a freshman

Jamelle Holieway - won an NC as a freshman AND in the process booted Troy Aikman to UCLA

Michael Vick - led VT to the NC game as a freshman

Chad Henne - led Michigan to a 9-2 record and a Rose Bowl berth as a freshman and was named to the Freshman All-American team.

There's more... lots more.

How can so many people claim to know about C McCoy and fail so badly?

We should run no huddle. He seems to perform better when he doesn't have time to think about the play. He gets a little jumpy when we go into huddle.

No.

So what if I said this is the only year of his UT career he's been great? They didn't accomplish anything between this year and the year Vince Young led em' to the NC.

One thing that all these 1st year QBs that have been listed have in common is that they don't play in the SEC.

He had good stats, but he couldn't get over the hump in important games. I guess that is what I should say.

I didn't see the 1st 2 listed, but Tommy Hodson played in a much different SEC. And Florida lost 4 games Chris Leak's freshman year, I think. I don't remember anything about Eli's freshman year.

My Bad. Don't know why I thought that.

He had 29 TD's and 7 INTs his freshman year and 22 TD's and 18 INTs his soph year.

I'm almost positive Eli wasn't starting as a Fr, I think Romaro Miller was.

True enough

They lost a lot of game, but from what I remember their defense was shite that year.

Eli didn't start til Sophomore year I believe. That was the last time Ole Miss defeated us.... in T.S. right before we caught fire to a 10-3 season and sugar bowl win.

He absolutely burned us that game, but they finished 6-5. They started off hot, then basically went on a slide after losing that 7 OT game to Arkansas....

Game changes. Conference strength varies and different offenses rise and fall.

Does that mean Tommy Hodson was not better than expected as a redshirt freshman QB?
