I mean, what “advantage” are we talking about? Finishing a series?

that plus having an extra day mixed in there gives your bullpen more rest.
guy throws on thursday may not typically throw again before saturday but can possibly get you some outs by Sunday.

Teams with less depth would get more rest and have an advantage that they wouldn’t have normally. I’m sure the logistics plays a role in it as well. Easier to book staff, umps, broadcast, etc in a set window

How does that give teams who play Thursday-Saturday any advantage over teams who play Friday-Sunday? The only teams affected by that are the ones playing the Thurs-Sat series, and it affects both teams equally. Just like playing a double-header due to weather affects both teams equally.

And I don’t think having an extra opportunity to finish a scheduled game should be considered an “advantage” for the teams who start on Thursday. The expectation is that everyone plays 30 games.

Thurs-Sat doesn’t provide an advantage.
Thurs-Sun does, so the SEC doesn’t allow it.

it also can have a pretty big impact on the standings.
which effects everyone.

but that can happen in every single weekend series.
a 4th day can’t.

and all 30 are played under the same rules.
3 game series.
everyone of them played over the course of a maximum of 3 days.

You still haven’t told me how teams who play 3 games from Thursday-Sunday (to prevent a cancelled game) have any advantage over teams who play 3 games from Friday-Sunday.

I would argue that whatever abstract advantage you can think of is outweighed by the need to finish the full series whenever possible. Especially considering that playing less than 30 games is rare - there have only been 3 SEC series that weren’t completed over the past 4 seasons.

There’s also the argument that playing Thursday-Saturday actually makes it harder to complete the series, since home teams are less likely to want to play a double-header or move a game early on a weekday.
