The word is that we're looking to give a 2 year deal to the prospective DC which is going to limit what we can get. It's pretty clear that Les doesn't have the longest leash and that situation isn't ideal for getting the best DC available.
If this is true, Alleva is actually sabotaging the LSU football program. He is like a one man sleeper cell.

Hypothetically let's say Les has a subpar season (6-6 or worse), and we want to make a move. Having less tied up in the DC would decrease the amount of money required to do so. We're already looking at a large buyout to move away from Les, why increase that if we think Les might not be the guy long term?
Alleva could be being smart for the long term. But he also might be dooming Les by not eliminating all of the road blocks to get an elite DC. That being said, if Alleva's first concern was giving Les everything Les and his staff wanted, John Chavis would still be the DC.

Man, I wonder when the rant's assumed national perception of Les will match up with reality. Miles is a well thought of coach all across the country. Whether you like him or not.

It then becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy or, at the very least, it could look that way.

Having the defense be on the field so much is a contributing factor to having a defense that ranks in the 80s.
Wouldn't a struggling offense keep your defense on the field a lot as well? LSU lead the conference in the number of punts and top 15 nationally. However you guys had an excellent defense despite your defense being on the field a lot due to the struggling offense. Y'all were able to overcome your defense being on the field a lot because y'all have always been able to recruit talent on defense. The teams you mentioned with defenses ranking in the 80s don't recruit well on defense. Auburn starting defense was:
DE Lambert
DT Adams
DT Bradley
DE President
LB McKinzy
LB Frost
LB Therezie
CB Jones
CB Mincy
S Holsey
S Ford
Only Adams, Therezie, and Frost were top recruits out of high school. Our struggles on D isn't being on the field too much, it's lack of blue chip talent. Oregon, A&M, Baylor, etc have the same defensive talent deficiency. Everyone seems to ignore that fact as if it doesn't matter.

And how, In obviously your awesome mind, did you come up with that just because they want to keep the hire quiet and not blast everything on facebook that no one wants this job?? You Miles haters are amazingly entertaining.

Some names that are hitting the rumor mill in coaching circles:
Clemsons Brent Venable
Penn State Bob Shoop
USC Ed Orgeron
Bama LB Coach Kevin Steele
Former Mich Coach Greg Mathison
Former Neb DC Papucis
Take it for what it's worth.

This is because 2015 is Miles last year if a NC is won or 2016 no matter what. Also why Chavis wanted 3 years without the Miles clause. Miles is hanging it up after 2016.

Timing is also an issue. Contracts have been extended. Chavis left us at worst possible time. We could have had a shot at Muschamp if our coaching changed happened when Everyone elses did.
Yep. Probably could have gotten real interest from Venables, Narduzzi, Muschamp, etc, had Chavis did this a month a go. His arse left at the worse possible time.
Now Narduzzi is an HC, Muschamp is at Auburn, and Venables has an extension.
We do have some nice prospects in Shoop and Pendergast, but that's about it. Every other name is stale, or has never been a DC.

Because you don't scream about searching for a better job while still employed. It's unprofessional and ruins any good will you have built with your current employer.

Is the rumor about his buyout expiring on the 1st true? The timing sure lined up with what the rumors said would happen.
