My point was that the ball moves more than a baseball.
it moves, and moves at different angles, but it doesn't move more than a baseball does.
simple physics.
a smaller ball with a faster spin rate moving at a higher velocity moves more.
Top Chart is baseball, bottom chart is softball
actual measured break distance on both horizontal and vertical planes.

Maybe read more than my first sentence.
I read your entire post.
And pointed out that I wasn't discussing hitting I like you were.
Just discussing an umpire's role since that is what this thread is about.

I certainly have and I was not belittling the softball pitches, but I was trying to say the ball doesn't move as much late as a hard ball at high velocity.
You may disagree, but I've played both at a pretty high level years ago, and that was my opinion on why umps seem to be better at SEC in softball than baseball. Just my opinion.

Underhand pitch with bigger, brighter ball going a shorter distance would be a guess.

I can share several facts about BB VS FP but I will only share a couple related to the topic. If a boy throws 100 mph and a girl throws 70 mph the time from ball out of the hand to home plate is virtually identical with the girls time slightly faster. With that said the ump has the same time to judge the pitch. Also, this equates to a girl batter having less reaction time than Major League Baseball player.
The reaction time fielding at 3rd in softball is incredible. I’m not sure people understand how quick you have to field and throw to get a runner at first. Then there are hard hit balls.

The game is much much quicker and fast-paced than baseball IMO.
