Of course. All anyone is trying to say is that all hires are a gamble, but it's less of a gamble if the guy you're hiring to call plays has successfully called plays before.

But we could've hired him 2 years later without as much risk. He was there to be had.

What's wrong with seeing how the guy calls an offense when the bullets are flying?

Not if someone hires first.

I don't have an issue with identifying a talent and trying to groom him in the program.

If it fails, it fails and we get a new staff. If it works, we're winning games.

Do we agree that those with playcalling experience are usually more successful than those without playcalling experience?
No! Absolutely not!

The Spread/RPO is the ruling scheme in college football right now. Give me E & Brady calling Spread/RPO plays over any OC (with 20 years experience) calling an obsolete scheme.

I agree

But I think their point is you find a guy who called that RPO system for a couple years.

I’m on record saying bad press be damned, hire Kendall Briles.

But I like Brady and I am Just going to keep hoping this is a case of brilliant foresight

Welp... Watch Brady's plays (after review by E) knock Texas out of their own home stadium in a few short weeks.

No argument with Briles' skills, but that baggage...

1. O will keep the players in line
2. He was never implemented in anything.
3. It came up once when FSU hires
Him and it will come up once they start lighting people up, and then it will be done.

Still I like The style of hire.

Young
RPO oriented.

were those the only two options?

let me preface this to say, Brady might kill it and i would be thrilled.

If you want Burrow in the best possible scheme for his skill-set, then E&Brady fills the bill.

Could some other OC have managed it? Probably so, but this combo seems to be working great.

Spread/RPO OCs are hard to hire these days. Not many of them.

That's not the point... YOU act like LSU will have the best offense in the country... THATS the point...... BTW... They won't no matter who they hire.........

But there's not some scarcity of play-callers. You just have to hire one. There are playcallers out there right now that will be FBS head coaches in a few years. Why not hire one of them?

A program of LSU's resources and prestige doesn't have to serve as a place for a playcaller to learn on-the-job. To me, this is where you come once you've proven yourself to take your progression to the next level.
