Truthfully 18 should have been retired after hester.

I think the jersey should be related to football only and it should then go to JL. the loss of a parent is bad. but being called the biggest failure for two years then still hanging in there to comeback this year and produce when called... that is who should get it!!

What you think doesn't matter to who gets #18.

Another good choice along with Murphy. That doesn't mean Murphy doesn't deserve it like you said earlier.

The #18 jersey is to go to a proven leader of the team, a person that has had to overcome huge obstacles to get to where they are.

Okay, this I could agree with. But because of your stupid arse post regarding Murphy taking up space, I just cannot get myself to agree now.

Those who are saying Murphy hasn't contributed need to wake up. There is a reason he is in games in the 4th quarter, and there is a reason he wears #18.
There is more to playing running back than just breaking off long runs. If we need to pass late, Murphy is in because he is far and away the best blocker and blitz recognizer among our RB's. If we need to control the ball late, he also gets playing time because the coaches trust him with ball security.
His leadership and perseverence have already been discussed.

I was thinking the same but don't dwell on other peoples personal lives.

not asking you to.

The #18 jersey tradition hadn't started yet when Hester was assigned to wear that number. It started with him. Hester was only a 2 or 3 star recruit out of high school, but because of hardwork, dedication to his team, etc. he became one of the best stories to ever come out of LSU football. As for as Dickson, you might have a point. I believe it was due to his character and leadership qualities that were why the team voted for him to wear the jersey.

Back to the question, if 18 is about character and adversity, and I think it's more or less about someone who has been a good "team" guy more than anything, then I'm going to go with J. Lee. Dude has stuck it out and deserves it, but he'll look fatter in the 18.

No one asked you to agree with Murphy wearing it either did they? But you sure as hell stuck your opinion in there. So I returned the favor.

Murphy is an AMAZING pass blocker. When he is in the game I love to watch him do his job. He is GREAT at it and is very exciting to watch.

Just stating he is taking up space for someone else that would be better. get over it
There are plenty of guys who take up space that never play. Murphy was on of the first guys to make it down on KO's every time this year. We wish he would have made a bigger impact, but he did play.

I agree with this. I think the Jersey 18 is comparable to the LSU head coaching position. No one could know what this guy goes through to be successful at LSU. With this being said this kid battled a bunch and is a great representative of the number. If you look at past #18 number wearers, maybe only 1% of collage football players can say there were as or more successful as those guys. So to say the guy doesn't deserve to wear it is wrong. He has huge balls for even accepting the number!

If Murphey comes back he gets it for all the reasons listed in the thread, if he does not my vote goes for DP.

Jarrett Lee is the correct answer.
It would likely mean more to him than anyone. And having him know how much he is supported by his team (and fans) would only add to his confidence level... and hopefully translate to his play on the field when his number is called.

Who cares who wears #18 next?
quote:This has to be one of the craziest things I've heard on this entire rediculous #18 debate. Why would you retire Hester's jersey? Because he played hard? Yeah no LSU player has ever done that before.
Truthfully 18 should have been retired after hester.
this #18 is so worn out. It was a fabricated tradition that only began with Hester and Dickson. Nobody cared about the #18 before Hester and nobody should care about it now.
