Including the two 50 points he gave up in losses in 2007?
Dude, triple overtimes.

Pelini gave up a lot of yds a few times. It was kinda funny looking back, the defense stepped back under Miles, but the offense became more aggressive. I think had it not been for Jarrett Lee and all those pick 6's, Les would have remained a lot more aggressive.

Last 30 years:

1. Saban
2. Aranda (limited data points)
3. Arnsparger
4. Jenkins
5. Reese
6. Pellini
7. Chief (prob too low here, but left bad taste)
8. Bugar
...
99. Tepper

Yes, Saban and Arnsparger were both HC, but there is ZERO doubt it was there defense. Muschamp was virtually a puppet under Saban.

Deitzel -! Look at 58-59 and see the innovation
McClendon - look at 1969 with the serious lack of Talent compared to everyone else.
Arnsbarger - took much less talent and whipped everyone except Miami of Ohio and freaking Tulane
Saban
Aranda

In that order.

Saban was never a dc I know he ran the d but if we are going by title. It's arranda muschamp chief archer. Polini sucked he took a team that was giving up less than 15 per game and gave up over 20 a game with the same personnel the year we won it in 07. Best d was 03 under muschamp and Saban. Best team too.

That's a tough question dude. We have had alot of great defensive coordinators. Dave Aranda has a chance to be the best that LSU has EVER had and that speaks to how great of a job he is doing on such short notice this season. We need to keep him at all costs. He is going to have our defensive unit looking fricking scary for years to come. Aranda has exceeded my expectations for this year's defense and they were very high. I sure hope our administration realizes how special he is and pony's up the dough to keep him here.

I can't believe nobody has even listed Phil Bennett. That guy had some good defenses on some bad teams.

Best all time has to be Saban or Arnsparger

Don't know about best all time but Carl Reese might be the most important. When Reese left for UT, Dinardo hired the great Lou Tepper. That hire was the end of Dinardo. If Dinardo had made a better hire, maybe he wins enough to keep his job and we miss out on the Process.

Agree 100%. Of course, others will say LSU recruits itself. Not true.
