09, Lee likely is ready, and looks like he does this year.

RP would have been a senior in 09. Lee or JJ wouldn't have seen the field until this season.

If that was the case, figure in a BCS run last year. My scenario was trying to be more "realistic", in that Perrilloux, having put up some big numbers having to win shootouts with a crappy defense in 08, and having been so highly touted as a recruit, goes pro after 1 yr. I have him behaving to stay eligible for a year, but still so full of ego (remember he was gonna be the man coming in) that no matter what the potential run in 09 may have been, or what scouts tell him he needs to work on, he still jumps.

In all reality Les has been rebuilding the last couple years after 08- fixed the defense and turnovers last year, still trying to fix the offense (as in get some yards again in addition to squeak out wins) this year. If he can fix the offense these last few games, the defense is set to be sound next year, and we're set to make our run. There ARE some signs- Ridley etc look to be competent enough in the run, Lee seems to have found his range (and reads defenses better). Jefferson may have lots of trouble accepting he was a bandaid on the INT issue in 09, as he clearly tries to force too much that he can't do to hold onto the starting job (and who wouldn't be pissed to be in that position?), but he's probably just a safety net in case Lee falters next year.

JJ is most to blame.

he is our starting QB.

he got the most snaps and the most drives.

JJ is to blame.

On the JJ/Lee issue, considering Perrilloux to have stayed 1 or 2 yrs:

Lee WAS the choice in 08. He wasn't ready then and blew up badly. Had he sat behind Perrilloux a year, he likely looks like he does this yr, and JJ doesn't get a look. Lee last year was braintoasted from 08, but the Lee we have this year would have been a good mix with last year's defense and Scott etc (who would have faced softer defenses against the run due to Lee's passing). 1 or 2 more wins, and a repectable offense.

We still likely lose to Auburn this year though. Next year we might have started preseason top 3 as SEC favorites in the "perrilloux stays" scenario, based on having a run of (by then) 6 yrs with 10+ wins- and the good thing is, we may still have the same actual team on the field next year. So the world is coming back to kilter, if we can just get the offense fixed. That actually may mean risking a loss to open up the game against a team we might otherwise have played close-to-the-vest against, but quite possibly Les may do that now that we've lost a game. I really doubt he felt going into the season that we would be playing to be #1 in the BCS in game 8 this year. As that developed, he might have tightened the reigns in hopes his defense could make the run this year.

jj, les, and crowton. all equally destructive to our qb situation. I wish i had some stats on how many td's jj's giving to other teams versus our own.

Recruiting mistakes;
&
JJ is to blame

Yeah. Recruiting- Perrilloux obviously, and then not finding someone skilled and ready to start. Both tough to predict- you had the one case with the other.
JJ- he came in to put out the INT fire, and ended up rolling GT in the bowl game- so what was Les to do? So he gave JJ the keys and said "don't screw up" and last year he did just that, and got the team back on track- really horrible offense but no screw-ups, and damn near had us finish with 10 wins and a top 10 finish (Penn St on a reasonable field and we likely get that). Ole Miss game never should have been close as it was, not on JJ.
So now Les has Lee who was his choice, but frazzled, and JJ who earned the job. So yeah, JJ by saving last season's record, screwed up any chance of sticking Lee back in as the starter- you talk about locker room perceptions now (Lee is the better choice), but had JJ been benched after last year the locker might have been just as likely to think JJ was getting a bum deal. First Lee pickoff and things might get ugly.

Obviously Miles gets alot of the blame because he is the head coach. Looking past that standard answer which is just typical of blaming the CEO for his staff sucking underneath him I look at it this way:

1. Gary Crowton - His play calling and game planning has not suited his talent since RP had to be dismissed. I have no idea why he has not been able to better tailor his offense around what he has. He also is the QB coach which means he is to blame for some of the developmental issues of the QBs.

2. The QBs themselves. It appears that Lee was not as dedicated his first year in the system and had not picked up the work ethic needed when he was asked to take the reigns in '08. He had a great mentor in Flynn to take advantage of, but by all accounts did not take advantage when he first arrived on campus. Over the last year he has become the type of leader we have expected by being the guy that puts in the extra work (I have been told he does his own extra preparation outside of what is really asked of him).

Eventhough Jefferson has shown a lot of heart on the field and been successful at times I have heard he has not really matured into the guy who puts in some of the extra work off the field. He definitely does what he is asked by the coaches, but I have heard he doesn't do the little extra that you hope the leaders of your team do on their own.

3. OL and WR. These two units have really been a let down. They were horrible last year and the interior OL was probably one of the biggest things holding back our offense in the AU game. The WRs for the last couple years have not done the QBs a lot of favors. I don't care if the QBs suck. If a ball ever hits you in the hands you don't drop it as a big time WR. Our WRs just aren't very dependable catching the ball and I have no clue why they have this problem. Supposedly they are the best. Do they need a better brand of glue to put on their gloves?
