LSU didn't want to get in a bidding war for Herman or for Fisher. Alleva also didn't want to conduct an actual coaching search either so we just hired the cheapest guy who "wanted it the most."

Now here's LSU's. It’s the second down year in a row for the LSU Foundation. That endowment has slipped from a high of $644.1 million in 2014 to a $616.5 million balance on June 30, 2016, according to the audit.

Sorry fellas

I already explained that they're including the PUF in their endowment, which is an absolutely idiotic way of counting. It's tax money from o&g extraction that's "invested" for facilities on campus. It's not donated from Alumni.

Not to mention, they count their System endowment (and all the related PUF's from it) to get to that $10B number. It's phony math.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble with my facts. LSU is dirt poor. TA&M can get any coach, any time, for any price. They will only fall to Texas when it comes to money.

See link. TA&M is in top ten with $9B. We don't even crack the top 100.

Whatever math was used, whether phony or not, they still have TA&M as one of the top ten richest schools. LSU is not even in the same ballpark. They calculated all the same way in those rankings, whether phony or not.

The Texas A&M endowment for their main campus, excluding the PUF is $1.7B. Which is tremendous, and still much larger than LSU's.

Texas (wisely) directed a certain percentage of oil and gas revenues to this investment pool all the Permanent University Fund. Which primarily supports facilities on all their campuses. A&M reports this number, the university endowment, and the PUF's and endowments of all of their regional campuses, athletics, Bush Library, etc. to that $10B number.

What does this have to do with anything. In college, I had a neighbor who purchased a $100k Mercedes and lived in a double wide

Who the hell hired joe alleva?

The people in power did, and they did because they want their hands in things the way they used to.

When Mark Emmert hired Nick Saban, it was stated repeatedly that the biggest key to success was to keep the boosters and politicians outside the program, and allow Saban to do his thing.
That happened, and it worked. We revived the program and won a title. But there still was resentment, I think- I remember thinking how weird it was that LSU just won it's first national title in 50 years, and had to share the victory parade with Southern. No offense to the Jags, but they are a D-IAA team that doesn't even play in the playoffs, they were just declared "best Black College team" or something like that. If you want to give them a parade too, go ahead, but let LSU have it's moment in the sun.
I think the politics behind that might have sealed the deal for Saban going to the next good job, because the Powers That Be made it clear they were still in charge at some level.

So Les came in, the bumbling fool... but he wasn't the fool they thought he was. He kept the fence shut, kept the boosters out of the program. And as long as he won, he had the power to do so.

But the Powers weren't happy, and they waited. And when Les finally lost an OOC game (the only one he ever did, against a good Wisconsin team, in the premier football stadium in the state of Wisconsin), it was all over except the formalities.

Enter Orgeron. Governor Edwards endorsed him last year, after threatening the program beforehand. LINK

He went hunting with him in the offseason LINK

He travels with the team now LINK
quote:

Governor John Bel Edwards traveled with the team to Tennessee for last week's game. Orgeron on that: "Very supportive of our football program. He's a big fan. I think it's one of the first times the governor of Louisiana came on the (team) plane to a trip."

Read into that quote- so apparently the governor didn't travel with the team when Saban and Miles were here (coincidentally, the most successful time of LSU in at least 50 years, maybe ever), but now he is.

This is what Orgeron and Alleva are, what Saban and Miles weren't. Big names are welcome to come hang around now.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the run is over, and LSU is back in the hands of the boosters.
