Why is a segment of our fan base legit obsessed with having a primary rival? We don’t have one specific rival that sticks out. Any real LSU fan knows that the following are our rivals in no specific order. Historically and present day.

Bama, Florida, Ole Miss, Arkansas and A&M

The rest of the SEC are just conference rivals. Nothing heated like these above. I will add that Texas is going to make their way on our list very quickly. LSU-Texas is as natural as it gets for a real rivalry. Might even take some luster away from the A&M rivalry. Auburn is sort of a rivalry but not a serious one. State is the furthest thing from a rival in the west IMO. Those are two division games that obviously matter but losing to them doesn’t make me sick like it would the others.

LSU is the SEC rival wildcard. Capable of pissing any opposing team's fans off to the highest level of pissitivity.

I hate Bama the most, but they’re Auburn’s rival.

Ours too. We have several.

Never understood the logic that each team is only allowed one official rival.

Tulane was our last true rival, and it really shouldn’t have been, as a rivalry has 2 teams that are equal in prestige.

LSU’s biggest rival was Tulane, but Tulane left the SEC and declined in competitiveness until the rivalry was essentially dead.

Basically, whom LSU’s biggest rival is depends on age.

Greatest Generation: Tulane
Boomer: Ole Miss
Gen x: Auburn or Florida
Millennial: Bama
Zillenial: A&M

In none of these cases is LSU the biggest rival of those schools (except for maybe Tulane).

As such, in a pod system, those other teams have rivalries that matter more to them than we do, so LSU fans are likely to be left with a pod that doesn’t satisfy. It’s not possible to satisfy it, btw, because LSU fans bitch no matter what.

If it were up to me, LSU would play Ole Miss, Alabama, and Florida. It’s far more likely we get Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Miss St.

Bama, Auburn, and Florida have been big games, but i’m not sure they’re “rivals,” in the true definition of the term.

I agree. They are an intense series of games between winning programs. Alabama considers us their third biggest “rival”, at best. So does UF. Ole Miss is probably the closest thing to a rival that we have.
