As a fellow drunk, I'm ashamed of you.

Then articulate your points better frickstick. Joe Burrow is no different than any other grad transfer. He has nothing to do with the point you seem to be trying to make, and for a school like LSU the transfer portal is probably going to hurt just as much as it helps. Guys can now get impatient after a year and aren't even obligated to tell the school before they put their name in and their phone starts ringing. Sure we may pick up a utility player here and there, but the bulk of our talent will still come from recruiting. This is a huge boon for smaller schools who don't recruit well and can make promises to guys who are disgruntled.

I'm not saying it's better or worse, but you seem to be implying nothing has changed.

No, I was responding to a poster who said "Its allows kids who get the butt hurt to make random decisions. Avoid responsibility of their decisions and to rum from adversity".

Players have always been allowed to make "random" decisions to transfer and "run from adversity". This just opens up their options when they decide to do so, and makes it easier to get a hold of prospective schools to which they may want to transfer. I'm all for it.

I don't think Jalen Hurts, Jacob Eason, or KELLY BRYANT want to be the next Joe Burrow.

I agree to a certain extent, but in the past they would have to at least sit down and have a conversation with the coach before he would grant permission. 247 reported that transfers were up significantly since the portal's implementation, but I haven't looked at the numbers. Have to think the ease of entering the portal is causing some to transfer who otherwise wouldn't.

Burrow transferred the summer before the transfer portal came into play
Grad transfers are one thing
Transferring and having to get waiver you can bet will be scrutinized this offseason

Because only quality QB's ever transfer, so there is no need to recruit any and just wait?

Articulate it better?

Well Drunken, it's not that complicated.

You see, schools that have a better history of recruiting QB's than LSU, which is just about all of them, will have top prospects who go to those schools and not win the starting job, like Joe Burrow.

Those guys, some 5 star prospects, will then start looking around for their next team, which is where LSU comes in, because of Joe Burrow stepping in and all of a sudden being a Heisman canidate.

You are giving us drunks a bad image with your lack of cognitive ability...AA?

Joe Burrow didn't use the Transfer Portal.

OK, let me clarify for the anal tards on here, QB's will be available every year due to the Transfer Portal, thus making recruiting the position less important.

Players could transfer before the "transfer portal" came into existence. Essentially, the portal is just a byproduct of removing the rules allowing coaches to block kids from transferring to certain schools. The portal itself doesn't automatically make a kid immediately eligible to play where he otherwise would not have. It just provides clarity to the process. The player is free to let all schools know he wants to transfer and it allows the school to know they are free to contact him to essentially "recruit" them.

The better title would be "Who else love the rule that coaches can't block transfers?" That's the game changer. Not the portal.

Burrow was able to "all of a sudden" step in and play because he was a grad transfer. Not because some new rule created by the Portal. Even with the portal, most of the transfers will be guys that have to sit out a year. The Burrow situation was unique because he didn't win the starting job at OSU, but he graduated in 3 years. That's different than guys like Kelly Bryant and Jalen Hurts. They were both upperclassmen who LOST their jobs to younger players. It just happen to be that they lost their starting jobs (relatively) late in their careers

How many quality QB's has LSU landed thru recruiting only?

The majority of our starting QB's have been transfers since Jamarcus Russell.

Burrow, Etling, Mettenberger…

Those that weren't transfers were barely serviceable, thus the change to picking up others, via transfer, or now the transfer portal.

Knowing what you meant...I do like the Transfer Portal. It’s the closest thing to Free Agency that college football has. It gives kids that weren’t starting or getting time at one school the opportunity to have a fresh start elsewhere. We are now seeing kids that have transferred out to go on to have successful careers at their new schools because they were needed not wanted.

This is creating parity in our league, which have schools like GA State being able to compete with a Tennessee based on talent alone.
