The amount of hype that group of pitchers came into the program with was honestly so intense that you would've thought that had they all stayed and been what they were supposed to be that LSU would've won multiple CWS titles at the very least. I can't remember another group of pitchers with more hyperbole attached to them individually. The fact that out of those four guys it was the third or fourth best among them depending on who you talk to, is the one that ends up the Friday starter for multiple years and is flirting with the strikeout record. Not to mention he ends up being the highest drafted guy in the first round while the other three literally became after thoughts when they were so highly thought of coming in. It all worked out for the program when it is all said and done, I really wish Godfrey could've been developed and stayed off the injury list so at least two of the four ended up being major contributors to the team. The Mac Marshall thing was just plain cowardly if his primary motivation to leave was because of being scared of his competition to get innings...both Mac and Latz never had the stones about them to be true competitors and whatever team ends up drafting them will find out quickly that they've made an error in judgment. If the two dudes couldn't hack it at the college level and folded under the pressure of fighting for spots then I can only think that at higher levels they will be nothing but totally overwhelmed by the talent around them. As for Godfrey, I really thought the kid had star written on him and flashed some really great potential only to never put it together consistently enough to be trusted, then when he might've shown some ability to be counted on just got injuries that ruined any progress he had made. Such a disappointing end to perhaps the most excited I've ever been in terms of the possibilities of an incoming class. Baseball is such a fickle whore.

I don't understand how he got drafted so high? Hes three years out of high school, got no more experience really, and has been hurt.

They may think they can save some money on him just like a senior. And regardless of his injuries, he still has a huge upside. He was a better pitcher than Lange in the fall of his freshman year. And that's not an opinion, it was consensus. Think lefty starter throwing 93-95 with an easy delivery and a plus curve and workable changeup.

A bit verbose for the Rant, but well said! That pitching class was insane. Unfortunately only ONE worked out, and not even the guy who was most highly regarded.

Can't believe he was drafted this early with so little experience under his belt.

Why? Kids get drafted out of high school every year

They aren't three years removed from significant playing time and don't have a history of injuries to their pitching arms
