It might even go all the way to Jarell Martin and Tim Quarterman.

why does it matter?
You can't conflate Vitale's hypocrisy with LSU fans who are concerned and skeptical about Will Wade putting LSU's athletics at risk with an NCAA investigation.

If we're being totally objective, both LSU and Wade have mishandled this entire situation. Until we know what LSU administration knows or whether they have justifiable reason for their actions and Wade's response for the apparent issues on the tape, we are all in the dark.

On the other hand, Vitale has gone way out of his way to excoriate LSU and Wade. Perhaps this is to deflect attention to his buddies and those who's jocks he sniffs to be in the limelight. He knows full well how the shoe company/AAU "influence" system works and so does the NCAA.

Wade is an Elite collegiate basketball head coach...... Get over it.

quote:

In other words, we want our coach to cheat. Not me brother. I want our coaches to have integrity.

You can drop the choirboy act b/c there isn’t anyone here who’s impressed, except maybe Lester Earl. Only in America can someone be completely bashed, trashed and labeled a cheater lacking integrity for giving some money to a person who has none and deserves it.

quote:

If by "high level of support" you meant condone cheating, you are mistaken. The majority of LSU fans want our coaches to have integrity.

You or anybody else has yet to prove that Wade “cheated” or committed any other NCAA violation. Once again, drop the choirboy act and people may start to take your posts more seriously..... but I doubt it.

quote:

Again, if you mean condone cheating, you are mistaken.

Again, if you don’t think the majority of the fans couldn’t care less if Wade is compensating a few elite athletes in order to create a level playing field for LSU to compete with the other big time programs who do the same.... Then you’re mistaken.

The truth is that these players leave high school and aren't allowed to play professional ball or legally obtain financial gain playing college. It's a terrible set up system where the NCAA bans these athletes from receiving benefits while they and the schools cash in on the athletes talents.

This is a discussion for another day. I agree the current situation is a mess. The NCAA is trying to "protect the integrity" of collegiate athletics (in large part because they make a lot of money from it). However, a large part of the "allure" of collegiate athletics is its "amateur status." I'm not sure what the solution should be, but I would like to see this cleaned up while protecting this aspect of the sport.

The truth is that these college athletes aren't receiving "life changing" amounts of money to play at theses schools. For the most part, many of them and their families are struggling or just getting by and are being somewhat compensated.

They are receiving an all-expense paid college education. This usually gets lost in the discussion. There are many college students who are struggling to get by who are also the product of a very poor family (I'm one). I remember donating plasma (blood) at the blood bank (over by Louie's) so I could eat.
quote:

The coaches (like Wade) are stuck in the middle and are forced to play the game whether they like it or not.

Forced? At some point, someone has to have enough integrity to stand up and say; no, we are not going to do that.
