Good article on Michael Brooks.

I think Devin was better but if you read this you'll understand why Brooks is in the discussion.

Excellent question.

Devin White and Warren Capone are the only 2 that were 2 time All-Americans.

So my list is

1. Devin White
2. Warren Capone
3. Albert Richardson
4. Michael Brooks
5. Bradie James

Was at LSU with Michael Brooks.
Nice guy and an animal on the field.

MIchael Brooks was my favorite when I was a kid. Kevin Minter is incredibly underrated among our all time greats. My nod goes to White, he was an absolute joy to watch. Leadership skills are off the chart and he is just a solid dude away from the field.

Devin is the only Butkus award winner in LSU's history.
That is the argument I would make for putting him #1.

Let’s not get caught up in when a player played...cause trust me..you’re gonna be much older one day..and you’re not gonna want some college kid telling you Devin White is irrelevant.

Michael Brooks played in a time (1983-1987) when LSU (program & players) didn’t get the respect that they do today.

And he blew a knee his senior year.

But before his senior season, all of the pundits considered him to be a mortal lock for the then (1985) recently-instituted Butkus award.

This is one reason that I don’t put too much stock in post-season awards.

They’re always a partial popularity contest, and if a player falls off the radar for any reason, regardless of his skill level, he gets ignored.

Even so (and in an era when knee reconstruction surgery was Stone-Age, compared to today), he was Denver’s 3rd Round pick in the 1987 draft, and he had a solid 10-year NFL career with the Broncos, Giants and Lions.

Devin White is certainly the best linebacker to come out of LSU in the last thirty years.

But I’ve had the privilege of seeing both of them play.

And for my thin and dusty dime, Michael Brooks is the GOAT.
