He said the truth. Les miles has won against Saban, but never dominated. Nick Saban has dominated Miles. 21-0 and top recruiting class to follow it.

Truth hurts.

I certainly like our chances for success against Bama in the Fall.... If LSU beats Bama in November, it will be for the third straight year in the regular season. Maybe we won't beat them 47-0,because the series is about as competitive as it gets- despite what happened on Jan. 9... But I suspect we will be a bigger thorn in Saban's arse than anyone else for the rest of his coaching days at Alabama....

So?

Can we beat them again in January?

I don't know- how many times have we played them in January?

I see your point, but CFB now is a bold new world.

With ESPN running the show, we are back to the "glory days" where traditional/entitled/media darlings like Bama will be playing Tier 2 teams (like LSU) in January despite not having to earn their place.

So, here we are.

We've played them in January.

Bama only has to beat us once to eliminate us.

We have to beat them twice.

Can we? So far, history says "neaux".

I disagree. Now that the precedent has been set, a Mulligan Bowl will be far easier to sell the next time. The 'ol "eyeball test" has effectively trumped all other factors, or at least it will for Bama.

As another poster said, we need to get used to the possibility of having to beat Bama twice a year.

I applaud you for having your finger firmly on the pulse of the state of the LSU football program and college football as it exists at this moment. You've made some great points in this thread and bring an interesting perspective that most people either haven't thought of, can't put into words, or disagree with. Props to you, sir.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but if it isn't, I appreciate it.

Dig up my "know your place" thread I put together before the BCSNCG. I should probably update it now with suggestions on what these "sky is falling" chicken littles need to do to come to grips with reality.

It has been a month. It is time for folks to come to grips with what happened, assess the situation, be logical, and move the frick on.

We lost a CFB game and some fans act like they lost a loved one. All this whining about ESPN, the BCS, Bama, etc is old. Know your place in the CFB world, embrace it, and enjoy the ride for years to come.

I would welcome playing Bama again in the MNC.

With Mett, HB, Reid, Freak, Boone, Sam, Logan and the boys, I like our chances.

They earned their spot, and proved they deserved to be there.. Watching that game, there was a team that looked like they didn't deserve to be there.. it wasn't BAMA..

If Miles continues w/ making calls that drive the fans crazy (clock management, QB rotation, etc.) & LSU goes on another 3 yr span w/o a West title, many fans will grumble & point to the debacle in the Dome as the beginning of the end of the Miles era. Jan. 9, 2012 will be like the Old Myth game at home in '97 was for DiNardo in that case.

I second this motion!!

I dont know about dominating Bama, But people act like the sky is falling!! We beat them last season then again the next game in thier own back yard... then we gave one up to them in the NC. Now watch, this next season we will arse stomp them in Death Valley. We will own Bama next season, they lost too much.. they will lose two games next year. I bet us and either Arky or Auburn beats them next season... they will have two losses..

Really? At what point from September through the end of November did they do this?

Was it when they beat only two ranked teams?

Was it when they lost their most important game in the regular season.....AT HOME?

Was it when they didn't win their division?

Was it when they didn't win their conference?

Was it when their coach was begging for a mulligan on Game Day while schools like LSU and "Okie Lite" and Oregon were winning their respective conference championships?

As a fan you should really rethink this. I get the fact that they rolled us in January. I was there. I saw it first hand.

But...

As a fan of college football, you have to realize what happened here. A team like Bama can now scheudle the sisters of the poor every weekend, lose their most important game, and relax knowing they will get another shot just because of the name on the uniform. We literally threw college football back into the stone age again.

And some of you want a "Plus One"? You realize a "Plus One" will just allow ESPN to put two more teams that didn't do shite all year in the mix?

This slippery slope is going to take a lot of fun out of college football. Now the "eyeball test" (which is basically a term to summarize "what the media wants") and "quality loss" are going to take over the sport whose motto is "Every Game Counts".

We don't root for a team that has the luxury of getting second chances and just prepping for one big game a year...IN JANUARY. Neither do fans of roughly 100 other division 1 schools.

Think about that.

13-0 says otherwise.

it wasn't BAMA

Again, congrats to them for winning their unprecedented mulligan.

Imagine if the NFL told the Giants today they had to play the 49ers again next week because they just won by 3 in OT to get to the SB. That's essentially what ESPN was able to do this year in CFB. Except it would be more like the Giants playing the Eagles/Cowboys/Redskins again. And the Giants lost twice to the Redskins this season.

Go ahead. Wrap your brain around that.

I guess the only consolation is that in the SEC, you have to survive all the other teams, not just your rivals, to stay on top. Some years, that's easier than others.

Im with EZE here, I was on the SEC rant earlier and bama fans were hounding an AU fan telling them they would be lucky to win the NC next year.. it may be true, but you have to remind them bama too was lucky, every team that had to lose.. lost and thats the only reason they were there. I'd ssay luck had something to do with there NC showing as well.
I watched every LSU game this year, and the team that showed up 1/9 (IMO) wasnt the same high energy team I had seen the last 13 games. I like my Tigers chances every year. This year wont be any different for me.

No reason to debate this because we'll never agree.. However the BCS system felt that BAMA deserved to be there. Blame the system all you want, but it has certainly worked in LSU's favor before. You're mentality is the only thing that is 2nd tier.. LSU is as respected as any program in the country right now. You wanted Okie Lite because you knew they were weaker than BAMA, and I don't know why you brought up a 2 loss Oregon who you had already beaten.. I guess because you knew you could beat them as well.. The best team won, the system worked..

And beat some of them twice, whether it is in the SECCG (east vs west rematches that frequently happen) or in the BCSNCG (inter-divisional rematches that can now happen on a whim).

It just got harder.
