In no way shape or form did I even want to make an attempt to suggest that.

My bad, I misread your post. Congrats on the huge win and the #1 ranking. I went to UT myself, so I am happy about it, too.

IN the Bama QB case, it was just a matter of his line and RB missing the block.

I'm not talking about that one, I'm talking about Laron coming with the head of steam from about 20 yds out. And Jones wasn't parked at the LOS on his sack/ fumble either.

Appreciated.

Few fans in this country could understand the feelings we have for OU.

I think an SEC football fan probably knows that feeling better than I do, towards others.

So beating them is way more important to me than being #1, but I like icing, too.

Both Texas and OU look very good, and obviously
Texas was a little better.

Texas is a legit #1.

Muschamp was puppet for Saban.

He was running that defense. It was Saban's schemes, but Will was running it.

His defense at UT doesn't look that impressive

He's just in his first year with a young secondary. The defense he inherited was 52nd in total defense last year and ranked 109th in pass defense and gave up a ton of yards.

Their problem is pass defense. Not taking the rush away.

quote:

The Texas defense dwindled in effectiveness as last season went along. In the final five games, the Longhorns surrendered 25, 35, 43, 38 and 34 points. Unable to stop teams, the traditionally stout Horns were reduced to outscoring them.

That's why Brown reached out to snag Muschamp. The former Georgia player and coach at Auburn and LSU left his SEC roots for a new challenge in the Big 12.

He's been up to the challenge so far.

As quick as he is to yell at a mistake, Muschamp is right there with praise.
Last year, the Longhorns were fourth in the league in sacks. This year, they lead the nation (3.8 per game) and have thrown opposing offenses for more lost yards (222) than anyone else. They've lived in the offensive backfield.

The Horns are third nationally in rushing defense (51.8 yards per game) and fourth in scoring defense (11.4 points per game). Texas has allowed 14 or fewer points in each of its first five games for the first time in 17 years, and has been particularly tough in the red zone. Opponents have scored on only eight of 15 possessions inside the Texas 20, the second-best defensive percentage in the nation.

quote:

New coordinator Will Muschamp has brought a new intensity to Texas' defense and transformed a unit that gave up 25.3 points per game in '07, dropping that number to 11.4 (fourth nationally) this season. The secret has been an ability to constantly harass QBs. The Longhorns lead the country with 3.8 sacks per game behind Big 12 leader Brian Orakpo (5 1/2). This ability to rattle passers has helped mask a young secondary that's 96th in pass D (244 yards per game). Muschamp was the man behind LSU's defensive game plan that beat OU in the 2003 national-title game, and if Texas is to slow down the Sooners' no-huddle attack, he'll have to cook up some way for the 'Horns to get to Bradford, who has been sacked just three times.

it really wasn't that great at Auburn

They finished 19th in total defense in 2006 and 6th in total defense in 2007.

When he was here and running the defense, we finished 8th in total defense in 2002, 1st in 2003, and 3rd in 2004.

He just needs more time with this Longhorn squad.

But, he's not coming back to the SEC as a coordinator, most likely.

As for Chizik, I don't remember their play much when Chizik was there but they finished 10th in total defense that year.

Chizik sucked at Texas.

Chizik did great at Texas and his D was one of the primary reasons that Texas won the MNC '05. Vince Young would have never had the opportunity to win the game had it not been for great defensive stops at critical moments. The D did suck the last half of the season his final year. I believe it was a combo of him looking at HC positions and a drop off in talent. Overall he's a damn good defensive coach.
