Based on?

Technically speaking, Petrino has a better college coaching career winning percentage, 73% to Miles' 71.4%. He's also 2-1 against Miles head up.

Now, Miles has a staggering 79.7% winning percentage at LSU.

Petrino's is only 53% at Arkansas. Although, you really should discount his first season (5-7) when Houston Nutt left him with absolutely nothing to work with.

I think the discussion needs to be revisited in a few years after Petrino has some time at Arkansas.

Miles has an SEC championship and a BCS. Miles has 100% HC in a BCS conference - Petrino's first 2 years at Louisville were in C-USA.

I think the head-to-head makes them close, but Miles still gets the edge (Has everyone forgotten that Miles turned Okie State completely around?)

I agree that Miles is ahead. But, in Petrino's favor, he's never had a talent base like LSU does.

I can't help that. WTF happened at the Falcons? For that matter, look how he left Louisville?

I think the Bloom is off the Petrino rose. Nutt left very little in Fayetteville, and that's not a good place to buil up quickly. And the great news is - we get a 2fer, Nutt is bringing Ole Miss completely down (they were "up"?) on his way out of coaching and onto his next career as a broadcaster (*cough*, RichRod, *cough*).

Crud - I said "Dave"? Obviously I meant "Mike", but I can't even blame autocorrect on that.

Sorry for the confusion - "Mike Shula" was the HC of Bama, actually from 2003 trough 2006.

Fixed in original.

If you judge talent and results together he is probably Top 10.

According to who? I really dont think there is a big diff when comparing recruiting rankings with schools. On any given roster there are hits and misses.

Schools Like USC, FSU, OSU, ND, UT, UGA. Are always up there in recruiting, yet no school has 2.

Before the start of last year the head coaches of these schools were all said to be better than Les Miles.

I wouldn't want anyone else as coach at LSU. Nobody's better.

Historically:
Joe Pa
Steve Spurrier
Mack Brown
(Jim Tressel would have been here)

Currently:

I just don't get the lover affair with Stoops. He's incredibly average when he steps outside the Big 12.

I agree with you to the extent I think he is overrated by the national media and cfb fans at large - however, he did lead the Sooners to 4 BCS game appearances. Despite the fact he only won 1 game, he DID win 1 game. Also, 1 of the games he loss, the winner had to vacate.

That, plus the winning percentage (and owning some pretty talented Texas teams over the years) has to count for something.

Yeah, Les Miles is a genius when it comes to offense right? Tell me something, what has been the problem the last few years here with LSU.

How the frick do some of you rank Miles as the number 1 coach, when he has only won just one sec title.
Miles is a damn good coach, but not the best. Take off your purple and gold glasses.

He's 7-8 against OOC Top 25 teams in his career.

Compare that with Miles who is 11-1 and Saban who's 12-7

I can't believe u'll picked Stoops. He is the reason a lot of people call OK. Chocklahoa especially in big bowl games.

I've been a Hat-hater for a long time... since the tennessee game where he was running down the sidelines yelling time out with his assistant coaches chasing him saying something like "for f**K's sake NO!" Then saw this kind of mistake happen time after time.

I've said "he's surviving on saban talent" more than once. he's proven he can get his own

My only reservations now are game management and down right stubbornness with personnel.

I'm almost fully on the bandwagon, and i'm to the point that if we lose a game that wasnt because of something stupid like at ole miss, or last year's almost loss vs. Tenn., i won't be jumping off.

all that said, i'd put him top 5. never thought i'd say that, but he's definitely there now, and i hope ppl like me over the past 6(?) years or so haven't been so bad as to run him off .

As a former hater, i'll finally give in and be a "jesus christ can we please keep him here, quit being a dick on TD" kinda guy.

Without a doubt, top 5 in the country. Easily, the best in LSU history. When it's all said and done, I truly believe he will be an icon, not just in LSU history, but in college football in general.

I've posted this before a few years ago, but my wife, who knows nothing about football, but has this remarkable sixth sense, looked up at Miles on TV and said he will be the most famous coach LSU has ever had. This was in 2006.
