If I were to rank LSU at number 20, that means I believe that teams 1-19 would beat LSU on a neutral field and that LSU would beat all of the other teams on a neutral field. Personally, I don't see how a game that is over 2 months away should have any impact on how good or bad I think a team is.
All of that being said, I think preseason rankings are a joke and should be done away with. You nailed it with this statement right here.
