When has the first scrimmage of a season ever dictated a season?

Seems like a lot of you would know that these numbers are irrelevant in a scripted scrimmage. Whistles are short. These are different atmospheres than games. There are probably mixtures of players on units that don’t even need to be there, etc etc. there are so many variables to these scrimmages.

Guaranteed, the offense wins the next scrimmage and most people will be questioning the defense and begging for answers on how the defense can expect to stop Alabama (because they’re the only team on the schedule)

There is just no way to “win” a scrimmage when you play yourself. Positive people will point out the positive things, negative people will point out the negative things. Qnd most tards on either side—but more so the negative one—will either not comprehend or intellectually dishonestly not acknowledge—that scrimmages are not played like mini games. They are to work on certain things and certain situationas. And stats—without those contexts—mean almost zero.

Bro when your head coach comes out and blatantly says “we have a lot of work to do” 3 weeks before the first game, that means a lot.

It was probably the same year that quarterback play, in the spring game, indicated his true ability.

Find one coach ever who didn’t say this after the 1st week of fall camp. Find me just one quote—one—where a coach said we’re ready to play a game tomorrow on August 11th and I will self ban for the season.

Exactly. It's coach language and doesn't mean anything. Alot of people make the mistake of taking it as reality and embarrass themselves when they comment on it.

Pretty much everything said between now and the Miami game should be taken with a grain of salt.

Reality will become obvious when the whistle blows

couldn't agree more. my biggest concern is our OL; it usually takes longer to come together and play as a unit. it appears they struggled badly yesterday, esp at RT and with penalties. a lot of that is to be expected this early. I am confident they will improve.

This a serious comment? What team across America across every level of football DOESNT have a lot to work on? This is after a week of practice.

Ofenses traditionally struggle at the beginning of Fall Camp Scrimages, however, the OLine seems to be the real point of issue this season. Seeing as everything begins in the trenches we better hope the first scrimmage doesn’t dictate the whole season. Time to coach them up James Cregg.

Comical. So like, LSU is predicted to be 7-5 and people are mad the Coach "thinks" a unit has a lot to work on.

Yea, I would think a predicted 7-5 would have a few things to work on ha!

First off, did y’all actually watch the press conference? When O said that his body language told it all. It wasn’t just “coach speak”. You can tell he doesn’t have a ton of confidence in this offense right now. It’s clear go back and watch it.
