re: When did wanting to win championships become a bad thing?

I think an argument can be made that Saban winning like he has today is more impressive than what Bear did in that era, which is why is said "arguably"
exactly. bear didnt even have scholly limits and had the advantage of being the 1 sec team that was consistently on nationally televised games.

Saban isn't even the best coach in Alabama history.
yes he is.
Saban has the higher win % in a much deeper sec.
Bear won 6 titles in 24 years.
Saban has 4 in 10 years.
can you imagine if saban didnt have scholly limits?

Come on, Rick. They had lost one game when we played them. We gave them the second loss.
They went on to beat #1 Georgia and #1 Bama and go to the SEC championship. They got screwed by the playoff committee like we did in 2011 (there was no committee in 2011 but you know what I'm getting at).
The game between them and Alabama meant something, it was for top place in the SEC, all the marbles so to speak, and as, much as I don't care for Auburn, they got screwed. No other team can say they beat two #1's in the same season yet we beat them.
O deserves credit for that win.
We didn't go to the SEC championship in year one like when Miles was here and maybe that's the problem. I don't know.
He has done better than he ever did at Ole Miss. That is a fact.

Well we agree on all of that.

Please, go back to your madden game. You obviously have no idea how real football works.

are you saying we dont have the talent to beat Miss st and Troy?

The problem is deeper than that.
First of all there are fans who care more about who the coach is than winning. There were Miles fanatics as well.
It’s exacerbated by the fact O is from Louisiana and not just some kid born in New Orleans or Baton Rouge and you couldn’t tell where he was from without seeing his drivers license. O speaks with that accent is obvious.
The truth is, if his name were John Smith from Iowa and was never ever a Coordinator and had a 10-25 record as a HC at an SEC school he never ever would have gotten a sniff of the LSU job and no one not a single TD poster would support him.
We are now just starting to see his weaknesses as “real” HC. There is a huge difference between being an interim and coaching up the previous HC’s players and leading a staff that you didn’t hire.
The HC makes the fires and hires. O’s first major hire was Matt Canada and he apparently didn’t know or didn’t care if his track record of issues with authority or what kind of offense he runs. He’s prepared to fire him and owe up to $3M to get him out of here.
His other moves were bringing a convicted felon on board to be his assistant (again if John Smith from Iowa did that he would have no support) promote meatball not once but twice, hire Joseph and state all year we aren’t capable with the talent we have at WR to go 4 wide and Robinson another one of his baws.
Meatball is fine I have no problem with him.
Joseph has not been a good WR coach by any reasonable standard. But has recruited well.
Robinson? who knows to be honest DW had a great year and Guice is Guice. He is billed as a great recruiter. Jury is out about his time here at LSU.
This year he replaces Grimes with a guy who had success as an OL coach in college but was an assistant OL coach in the NFL. Again another O baw.
We are very lucky that Aranda and Raymond stayed and O did not have to make a full staff hire. As it appears that the main requirement to be part of O’s staff is you coached with him before.
Are we really prepared for O to bring Ole Miss to LSU?
Bottom line is if O were not from Louisiana he wouldn’t be here. And he gets a pass from much of the fan base because he can whip up a roux.
It’s cajun affirmative action.

This isn't true. His being from Louisiana is the last thing on my mind when I'm watching games.
I want to see productivity and improvement, which we had after the Moo State and Troy debacles.
There are things that still need work but to just say "his ole miss stuff and yaw yaw and shrimp boat captain and more yaw yaw...."
That isn't fair to the man. Lately it seems like people jump O's case because of the Canada drama, but in reality no one knows the details. Let's just pin it on the HC.
Canada could have and may have decided to leave on his own, correct? Look at his history. He does it a lot.
I have yet to see something that definitely states he's fired.

No. I'm saying that in a real game ANYTHING can happen. including losing to a less talented team. No cheat codes in a real game sonnyboy.
Posted on 12/31/17 at 5:40 am to tigertex1992
The new norm will be replacing coaches every 3 years if no championship.

Lol no. Are you suggesting he is quitting and leaving 3M on the table???
Come on.
Hmmmmm
Does this sound familiar?
“Upon arriving at Ole Miss, Orgeron attempted to bring USC's passing game coordinator, Lane Kiffin, with him as the new offensive coordinator, but”
“In response to the results of his first season, Orgeron fired offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone”

Wut? Do you even math bro? Averaged 10 wins a season. Rediculous to let him go in the first place.

The O lovers are going to hate this thread. They’d rather go down with the shrimp boat captain and call themselves real fans.

OMG you’re so smart
Anything can happen is the lamest fricking excuse for losing a game you never should have lost.

Wanting to win a championship and expecting to win a championship are 2 different things.
