As stated by others, the schedule for the 2nd half of the season was much tougher and that has a lot to do with it.
However, I think the team was heavily invested in Renaudo's return. When that went poorly, so did the rest of things.
Ask yourself this... how many base running errors did you see when AR was out ? It's like they held the mental toughness while he was out and then relented the same when he returned.
They WILL bounce back and it starts tomorrow night. It's time for the Box to get F'ing crazy !

the bleeding started when we began playing top tier SEC teams and got really bad when it became apparent we could not bunt to move players up in scoring position AND if you waited long enough ott would serve you up a HR ball when behind in the count

The Kansas series actually started raising some doubts. Just blew it off because it was early and out of conference just like last year with Illinois. But maybe it does go back to that early in the season. Who knows? It's anybody's guess.

Right after we banned RMJ.

Obviously, this team's problems run much more deep than one man (or the return of one man) but what was the straw that broke the camel's back?

It began when we lost some awesome upperclassmen and some promising freshmen to the MLB draft. It continued with AR's injury. It multiplied when
THIS, plus Matty Ott has not been the same pitcher this year. From the beginning of the season, he gave up walks that wouldn't have last year.
Watkins injury also hurt, because it put two weak bats into the lineup and took away a good leadoff hitter (Mikie did a good job, but his bat later in the lineup might have gotten a bunch of those LOB guys home. We didn't hit well in the clutch this year, leaving an inordinate number of runners on base.

he was unable to recover his motion post-injury. It furthered when Ott became merely "human". It became irreversable when the teams confidence was totally shattered. Throw in a mixture of zero baseball fortune in key moments and none of the buttons Maneri has pushed working, and you got yourself a stinker of a second half of a season.

The problem NOW is not with the team. It's with coaching. We have been in slumps in the past as all baseball teams have. In years past we had the coaching to help get out of the slump. PM said that he has never seen anything like this before so he has no idea how to motivate the team or get them thinking positive again..
Posted on 5/17/10 at 6:51 pm to willie
IMO it started when we won the title last year
as good of a motivator as PM is, I dont think he was able to fully get through to the kids about complacency.
It starts to snoball when you play a shitty OOC schedule. they kids got "up" thinking they were still invincible because they weren't losing.
meanwhile the relevant teams were licking their chops to play and beat LSU, and when the time come, they started to do just that.
then start to sprinkle in the little things, like AR being hurt. no other starters stepping up. horrible base coaching. in ability to hit in runners on base
it's obvious more mental. This team is TOO good to be struggling this much. Even with average pitching they should still be winning more games then they are. PM obviously gets a pass, but this season has become a lot like Smoke Laval's years

when we started playing good teams.
Come on, Elleshoe, you really can't believe that!! How do you explain a Matty Ott, who was unstoppable all last year & half this year, suddenly losing his touch? AR getting bombed, & never really having 'arrived' this year. The team we saw against Kentucky, is not the same team that started the first half of the season, & UK is certainly not what I would call a really good team, & they belted everyone we brought in to pitch. It looks to be a combination of factors, & we could just have easily have won a couple against Ole Miss, but our mojo has just run out this year...
