What's your story? - How did you become a fan?

With these dumb threads about non-grads being fans, I got curious how people come to be Tiger fans.
I'll start:
My father and grandfather were grads and were in the band. My grandad traveled with Huey Long on trains touring the state for rallies. My dad also has a graduate degree.
My mom also has undergrad and graduate degrees. She grew up traveling to games with her father who was the state trooper in charge of security for Earl Long.
I grew up on the University lake, and riding my bike around campus. I went to summer camps there every year. We had season tickets when I was a kid. I was at the USC game, the orange game, and many others.
I attended LSU and have four degrees from LSU institutions including undergrad, graduate and professional.
TOP ME!

Between myself, my wife, my parents, and her parents (so six people in all), we have eleven degrees from LSU.

Yeah, because being interested in how people became fans is worse than the 1500 "JJ thought popped in my head" threads that we've had today.

Went to every game during the Hallman and Dinardo eras. EVERY GAME. Lot of suckage.
Sitting in the nearly empty stands, it was a lot more pleasant than it is now. I love watching LSU play, but normally will give up my tickets and go watch in the bar so I'm not surrounded by the "fans" who are screaming for coaches and players heads after a dropped pass or broken assignment.
Also, I'm a student there now. My sister got her CE degree from there. My Dad got his undergrad and MD from LSU. All of my mom's family went there and got degrees.

You sound like you had a very privledged childhood.. I'm just some RP country bumpkin who grew up pulling for LSU because it was fun. I went to an LSU game with my older brother's then girlfriend when I was in the 6th grade, and I was hooked after that! The game was against Ole Miss. My Dad always felt that he should have played for LSU football and he is really obnoxious and a rantard about LSU football!!!

This is impressive.
For me, my parents and grandfather (4 people) I guess this number is 9 (although two are actually from the med ctr in N.O.)

I was a basketball brat growing up so I really didn't know about or care about LSU football growing up. I was all basketball. My brother however went to LSU, and use to always tell me about how cool the games were. Well as an adult, he and I started going to one home game a year which was usually a money game, then it became one SEC game a year. Then in 2003 we got season tickets. Then we started going to one road game a year. It was something that he and I always looked forward to, and for me it was just awesome to spend time with my brother, the game was just a bonus. I actually remember missing Skylar Green catching the pass against UGA in 03 because the second Mauk threw the ball I began jumping and screaming and hugging my brother TD TD TD! It was great. We lost our season tickets a year after he died a couple years back. Since then I went back to the one game a year routine. And look forward to bringing my son to the games when he's old enough. Who I also named after my brother.

Being a Tiger fan needs no JUSTIFICATION!

Father was a huge LSU football fan (still is, though an EPIC negatiger). I started listening to games on the radio since before I can remember well, 2 or 3 certainly. I was allowed to curse as a child ONLY in the "Geaux to H*ll, Ole Miss, Geaux to H*ll" - and modified for Notre Dame in '70 and '71.
I had an old, old school LSU pennant on my wall as a kid. I'm assuming my dad got it at a game in the late 50s or 60s. I cannot remember not having it - although, sadly, I'm not 100% sure where it is right now.
I never seriously considered another school for undergrad or law school - I have both degrees from LSU, though I also attended the Defense Language Institute for the Army (Happy Birthday US Army), as well as LSU-A right out of high school.
I try to attend at least 1 game per year, and when I was a student, I rarely missed a game. I have followed LSU baseball, basketball and track and field, as well as alumni in other sports and fields (Shaq, Will Wright, Bill Conti, David Thoms, Dr. James Andrews), but I am primarily an LSU football fan.

That counts.
Five of our eleven are from doctorate programs - One Shreveport Med, one NOLA med, and two from the Law Center.

Grew up with in 5 miles of campus.
Went to my first game when I was 6 or 7.
I swam for the LSU Bengals AAU team that practiced at the Huey P. Long pool so I spent many hours on campus at a very young age.
My dad was an alum and huge fan.
I could go on and on....sold peanuts in the stadium when I was 10.
I was a diehard LSU fan long before I went to college.

I have grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings who are at or have gone to LSU.
All of my family is from the BR/Nola/Laffy/Lake Charles area. I was born in Louisiana.
I grew up watching and rooting for LSU football/baseball/basketball. I also grew up thinking I was going to attend LSU, but out of state tuition being what it is, I decided to stay in Texas.
So I was born into LSU FANaticism, and will always be for LSU.

My great great great great great great great great...grandfather made the Louisiana purchase.
My great, great.....grandfather founded LSU.
All of my ancestors played multiple sports at LSU.
I was born in the NEZ and delivered by Mike the Tiger.
I went to U High and then LSU, where I played football, basketball and baseball. I was also in the Tiger Band. Halftime was rough.
I got 4 masters degrees and PhD from LSU.
I now live walking distance to LSU in a purple and gold house and work in the student union in addition to being a professor at LSU.

Awesome story and thanks for that. This is why I started this thread.
I too was a much bigger b-ball fan when I was a kid. I would still put a dagger in Kyle Macy if a had the chance.

LSU alum - '88-'93 ... pretty much that simple!
LSU degrees in the family:
Me - 1
Wife - 1
Everybody in my wife's family - 4
Nobody else in mine (we're carpetbagging Yankees)
