I believe he starts and plays well in 2017 - however, I think another QB will pass him by mid-season.
With our easy opening schedule if he is replaced at mid season he isn't doing well.
If he is doing well why would he be replaced?

Worst QB to ever play at LSU!!!!!

And don't forget that it was Ryan Perrilloux, not Matt Flynn, who took down Tennessee and got LSU to the 2007 National Championship game.

ETA: On point of OP, I think DE is best QB on roster right now.

It's bc against the three defenses with a pulse he shite the bed and we lost. Under 60 percent in all three games. The biggest game against of course Bama.

He's not going to be at the top of any NFL draft boards, but he generally put LSU in good position and didn't make many mistakes. Also, his ability to move in the pocket and progress to different receivers allowed him to keep plays alive. LSU can win a lot of games with Etiling. Bama was his only bad game. However, when your OL can't keep the rush off and the gameplan as a whole plays right into their strength, it would have been hard for any QB to succeed that night.
He's not a great runner, but he's mobile enough to keep plays alive. He doesn't have a huge arm, but arm strength doesn't mean shite if you can't hit your targets. He struggled mightily with the deep ball, but it got better as the season progressed with him playing his best game in the final game of the season.
Who would you rather have? A guy with a "high" ceiling who can never get close to his max potential, or a guy with a "low" ceiling, but one who maxes out his ability?
FTR, I don't think any QB had a great shot of succeeding under Les's offensive approach. And maybe Harris will be MUCH better under a new HC/OC. But if next season were starting tomorrow, I'd want Etling at QB. LSU has more than enough playmakers at WR, TE and RB. They just need a QB who can get them in the right spot and get the ball to them in space.

When it boils down to it, does anyone see us winning a championship and beating Alabama with Etling?
I dont.
LSU's not winning a championship next year bud... but I think a 10-2 year and a major bowl is would be a very good year considering the dumpster fire of the past 13 months.

Can't throw the deep ball consistently and can't power the ball into tight windows.
Despite that he is still probably our best option.
This a statment on how pathetic things are right now where QBs are concerned.

He's a below avg QB man. I have no issue with him and believe he is the starter next yr unless someone jumps him, which is doubtful.
But he is still a below avg SEC QB

AU was worse than score showed,
and yeah Bama game he lost his poise.

There are a lot of closet PC kids on here who don't want a white QB. Having never played against SECW competition until this year and have an idot like Cam working with him, I think he did a great job managing and leading the team under the circumstances. The job is his to lose. Harris is finished and needs to transfer. Get over it. It''s not fantasy football.

He's extremely average with a low ceiling and shite the bed against Alabama.

people just realize he is limited in what he can do and the prospect of others being more talented,
Cam Cameron can coach qbs. No one is making harris far more accurate than he already is. Outside of some work on his footwork, accuracy is something you either have or not. Harris is just too inaccurate to be the efficient qb that lsu needs.

Did you just call Cam Cameron an idiot when it comes to qb coaching?

And there were throws to be had against bama. It was frustrating as hell watching him throw balls into the dirt when our line would give him a clean pocket

His poise was definitely not there against Bama which is his biggest asset. When he loses his ability to move in the pocket and keep his eyes downfield, he's toast. He's not athletic enough to consistently run away from SEC defenders and his arm strength isn't enough to pick up a target late and zip it without the threat for an INT.
His biggest weakness is accuracy on deep balls. I think it's a combo of arm strength and coaching him where to put the ball. Also, he lost confidence in Dupre to fight for the 50/50 balls which hurt his placement of a catchable deep ball. Hopefully Canada will improve his comfort against good defensive fronts with calling quicker developing plays, and hopefully improve his placement of the deep ball.
Etling needs to hit the weight room a little in the off season. I definitely don't think he's gonna get too big like a Tim Tebow where it hurts his mechanics and accuracy, but he definitely needs to improve his legs, core and arm strength.
Etling will start and be good next year. His combination of experience and leadership will be enough at QB to have a good offense. I think LSU and Etling will be better next year with Canada.

quote:i dont its accuracy. I think he knows his arm strength isnt great so he throws deep way too early sometimes and the wr cant get to it. Or he throws it too late and its underthrown. I see his inaccuracyon deep passes as a timing thing but thats just sitting on the couch. You most definitely could be right

Yea yea yea but he is still the best QB we've had since Mett and you know it.

To many ex- Div 1 QBs on this board that were All-Americans. Never be happy with just a pretty solid guy under center.
