20-7 loss to Houston in Tiger Stadium, 1999.
The players had quit on the wonderful program saving genius DiNardo, and it was painfully obvious. They didn't care anymore, they didn't even try. They allowed a middle of the pack Conference-USA team walk into Tiger Stadium and just have their way with us, for our 8th straight loss of the season. Just an all-around embarrassment.
Absolutely true. This game was depressing - no energy on the fields, no energy in the stands. You could say the same for most of the 1999 season.
I mean, losing to the Vols in '05 sucked, but it was a team leaving its all on the field, and a fired-up crowd desperate for football. It wasn't depressing in the same way that sad 1999 season was depressing.

There have been a lot of depressing losses due to us having weak teams playing against stronger opponents. When I was in graduate school, I saw the Tigers lose by big scores at home to Kentucky, Alabama, and Florida St. in the same season. Depressing. But, one game that I remember hurting about as a teenager was the first time that LSU ever played Notre Dame - 3 -0.

About 90000 people were all bummed out that day. Little did we know what would happen 7 days later...

2005 Tennessee is up there, but I'd have to say the Capital one Bowl in 05 was the worst b/c LSU lost on my birthday.

This is a long time ago, but I will say 1974....LSU 10, Rice 10....because Charlie Mac went for the tie with frickin' Rice....Rice Stadium was 70-80 percent LSU fans and he goes for the frickin' tie...long ride back to BR

Have to say, as far as game we lost that I was at, The 1997 Auburn game when Cecil the Diesel ran all over them for over 200, and also Mealey had over 130, yet on 3rd and 2 Dinardo throws and we punt and they drive the field and win. We run it on 3rd and if they stop us, which they did not all night, we go on fourth and convert. Also Tyler even could have run for it when he passed incomplete on 3rd and 2, but also clock would have continued to run if no incomplete pass was made, but we gave them that game and the chance for our first SECCG, but no, we frick it up with Didiego.

Most depressing games have all been mentioned in this thread; I will have to mention my most anguished loss was to Ohio State; I believe it was 1983, & we let them come back late in the 4th quarter...I think that was the closest I ever wanted to go out & kill people..

Actually, Ohio St loss was early in 88, after we tied them here in 87. We blew like a 13 point 4th quater lead , and on the winning td for them, their wide reciever trapped the ball against the turf in the end zone on a pass from Frey. Ref blew that call, but we blew it anyway letting them come back on us, like we did in 87 when they tied us.

I'm with you. I screamed into my pillow in my bed for like an hour after Arkansas beat us last year. I thought that was it

Alabama vs LSU (Nov. 9, 1996)
Redshirt freshman Shaun Alexander going for 291 yards and 4 TD's. Brutal.

Im gonna go with Ole Miss, I think it was 97. We had finally beaten Spurrier and Florida at home (in prolly the greatest game ever played in TS), it looked like the program was going to finally turn the corner and then we loose to Ole Piss at home the very next week. I dont remember the score, the game really wasnt even close. It all went down hill after that!!!
