What’s more beneficial for us: a Texas win or Tennessee?

We have to play both later in the year so I’m not sure it matters, but personal hatred aside, which one winning tonight is better for our situation?

It's not going to matter if we don't get a win tonight. We get Texas at home is the only possible plus consideration.

Probably whichever is the higher-ranked undefeated team when we play them. So that is likely Texas.
But an away win against a highly ranked opponent is always good. So it may be pretty close to a wash.
LSU needs to win its remaining games, and it'll all work out. Drop 1, and they are almost 100% in. 9-3 is iffy at best.

Much rather Texas lose. They have more resources than Tennessee. I rather they have as little success as possible.

In the event we lose 3 games and beat the #1 team and our losses are only to highly ranked teams then this helps any potential case to sneak into the playoffs.

I agree. Since we play them both this year, I think short term, it’s a push. Long term, Texas’s program is the bigger threat. Gimme the Vols.

1) Pretty sure I read that Texas still has 7 games left with ranked teams. Nothing in Sark’s career suggests he navigates that unscathed, even if this is his best team. I think the odds of an undefeated, #1 ranked Texas coming into Tiger Stadium in mid-November are pretty low.
2) For the sake of argument and your hypothetical, let’s say they are undefeated, and we beat them. Sure, great win. But you suggest it could be the tie-breaker if we wind up with 3 losses. Then who are our other 2 losses to? Bama and Tennessee? No way to know now, but those could be “good losses.” But the playoff committee is not putting in their 1st 3-loss regular season team when 2 of those losses were in their last 4 games.
So where’s the other loss? At Kentucky? That’s no good. At Auburn? Not great either. It’s actually probably today to A&M. Start 2-2, then finish on a 7-1 heater with a win over undefeated Texas and the only loss being a close one at home to Bama or on the road to Tennessee. Only problem with that, is that I don’t think this team is capable of that finish if they can’t find a way to win today in Tiger Stadium at night.
3) Everybody hates us right now. It’s really hard for me to see the committee putting us in with 3 regular season losses. Again, no 3-loss regular season team has gotten in without an auto qualifier. It would take a huge cannibalistic clusterfrick of an SEC season where everybody just beats everybody and there’s a bunch of 3-loss teams. And I don’t see us being the team that gets the benefit of the doubt. Not this year. We’d need Clemson to go 11-1 or 10-2 and win the ACC most likely. And that does not look like a team even remotely capable of that. Hell, did they even win last night at Cal? They were losing when I went to bed.
4) Tl:dr—I don’t see a realistic path for us to make the playoffs at 9-3, no matter who the losses are to. But I also don’t see realistic path where we DON’T make the playoffs at 10-2, no matter who the other loss is to. So I don’t think this UT/UT game is really going to affect our season either way.

Seems to me Texas likely has a better chance to win out than Tennessee does, so give me a Vol win today.

I don’t care which wins or loses…..as long as they beat the crap out of each other, so their injured lists are larger than ours come game time when we play them.
