I've heard that from others, but that was a couple of years before my memeory of LSU football kicked in.

In my time the '79 USC game was the loudest in Tiger Stadium annals and I really don't think any other is close.

It is really difficult to fully articulate, but as u can see to the response to your question,it was truly a very special night in Death Valley. I doubt u would get the same number of posts to any other game in Tiger Stadium with the same equaled passion. Please don't misunderstand me there have been so many others on that sacred ground, just not the same. Someone I think earlier said it was like The Earthquake Game only it lasted from beginning to end.

I think that captures it Swamp. I've never spoken to anyone who was there or listened on the radio who disagreed.

I spoke to Ivan Phillips recently who was a D-tackle on that LSU team. I just met him and he mentioned the years he played at LSU and 1979 I believe his senior year.

So I asked him about that game as it was a special one in my memory. Said he went up againt Munoz and the first play of the game Munoz drove him 40 yards down the field.

Gives you an idea of the talent deficit, yet Phillips didn't quit and neither did that Tiger team. That's another reason it was so special.

Actually, Munoz did not play in the game (he had an injury). I have no doubt that his replacement probably did move him 40 yards, though!

If you ever get to see a DVD of the game...that offensive line was mammoth.

How about that? Well, Phillips thinks it was Munoz but that was a long time ago and we were at a bar.
