This defense will be in the top 5 next year so you will have some talented DCs wanting to come.

They'll be lining up for this job.

Impossible. Chavis is leaving because the fanbase is too negative

I don't normally subscribe to the thought that top candidates are chomping at the bit to coach at LSU, but in this instance I do. Some coordinator on a head coaching career track will be looking for a high visibility job with talent on the roster. Such a coordinator would be foolish not to seriously consider LSU.

The countdown clock for Coach Miles has begun. I think this Alleva's way of putting CLM on notice...This is a means of slowly eroding CLM's powerbase. A very curious move on Mr. Alleva's part...

The good thing about Chavis is that he really had no aspirations to be a head coach. "Some coordinator on a head coaching career track" will be quick to leave if he has any success at DC.

This is all part of the administration setting the stage for the eventual departure of Miles (2 or 3 years from now maybe?). Either they will bring in a DC that will eventually potentially replace Miles or they want to set the stage for whatever HC they go after 2-3 years from now can bring in whoever they want for DC.

What was Alleva thinking what that clause the ticked off Chavis??? I mean, come on...if Miles didn't leave for Michigan this last time, he isn't going to unless he retires

Well, the clause was put there well before the Michigan job was settled. Maybe you can fault him for not reacting as soon as it was apparent that Miles wasn't leaving.

Having said that, it sounds like LSU's offer to Chavis was a top 3 type of offer all things included (money, guarantees, duration, etc.) It's not like LSU lowballed Chavis.

It was a legit concern and Chavis had a nice offer on the table. This defense will be in the top 5 next year so you will have some talented DCs wanting to come.
My bil told he read in NOLA.COM that Kevin Steel is the leading candidate for D.C. - he is the linebackers coach at Bama.
