I tried googeling it but still didn't get any satisfaction. All I know is Maimi fans hate it, and say its very disrespectful. Anyone able to clue me in?

The Gator Flop

The "Gator flop" occurred during a 1971 NCAA football game between the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes. In the final minutes of the game, Gator John Reaves needed to throw just another 14 yards to break the all-time NCAA career passing record. The members of the Gators' defense dropped to the turf so that the Hurricanes could gain possession and take the ball to the other end of the field. After the Hurricanes scored a touchdown, the Gators recovered the ball and Reaves threw a pass to break the record.Hurricane Sports: ESPN's College Game Day... (September 4, 2002)

So basically the Florida players took a dive so they could break a record? Sounds like the type of play an honest gaytor would do.

The flop was a major controversy at the time. Howard Cossell had comments on it at the following Monday Night game, calling Reaves' record tainted.

Same thing as the 2006 Michael Strahan record-breaking sack of Brett Favre

It's pretty much like doing "da stanky leg"

Y'all are going waaaaayy back for material now. Must be a slow news day. This issue is only between Miamuh and Florida. No need for LSU fans to worry themselves about the Florida Flop. This doesn't even belong in the SEC Rant!
It's not like we chopped blocked anybody...
...and look where it got John Reaves. Now, he's Lane Kiffin's father-in-law!!!! Wouldn't wish THAT on anybody.

Fran Curci got some sweet revenge in 1974.

Is that "Fifth Down" Fran Curci getting upset?!
(For those that don't remember, Miami beat Tulane one year when the officals erroneously gave Miami an extra (fifth) down on offense. Of course, they accepted the win...)

In my opinion, this is punishment enough.

...would be the Gator's results at the upcoming UF / LSU game.
Much like 2007, 2005, 2004, 2002, 1997......

It is what is going to happen when they come to Tiger Stadium in October 2009 and get the beat down by the Tigers in front of a national audience.
