i really think Etling is gonna be fantastic next year when you look at what Canada did with Pitt QB Nate Peterman in just one season (Canada was only there 1 year, for those who don't know)
2015 pass attempts per game - 24.2
2016 pass attempts per game - 24.0
2015 QB rating - 138.57 (4th in the ACC)
2016 QB rating - 161.23 (1st in the ACC; that means above Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson, not to mention Mitch Trubisky, Brad Kaaya, and Deondre Francois, who play under QB gurus Fedora, Richt, and Fisher)
2015 total yards - 2287
2016 total yards - 2602
2015 yards per game - 175.9
2016 yards per game - 216.8
2015 TDs - 20
2016 TDs - 26
2015 INTs - 8
2016 INTs - 6
worth noting that Etlings numbers are fairly similar to Petersons the year before Canada, though you have to factor in that Etling didn't start the whole season and we lost a game that likely would have padded his stats, not to mention we have Guice and 7 and rely on the RBs MUCH more than Pitt.
Peterson 2015 pass attempts per game - 24.2
Etling 2016 pass attempts per game - 24.0
Peterson 2015 QB rating - 138.57
Etling 2016 QB rating - 135.76
Peterson 2015 total yards - 2287
Etling 2016 total yards - 1906
Peterson 2015 yards per game - 175.9
Etling 2016 yards per game - 190.6
Peterson 2015 TDs - 20
Etling 2016 TDs - 9
Peterson 2015 INTs - 8
Etling 2016 INTs - 4
Etlings TD/INT totals weren't great obviously but the ratios for both are just under 2 to 1

How much of the improvements are attributable to the new OC, vs how much are attributable to a QB going from his first to his second year starting.

He would need to be better than that in order to win the SEC next year. Just don't see it. Would be nice, but just hard to believe right now.

What gets me excited is that CC tried to recruit him in high school.
Obviously he had the tools that CC was looking for then and has a way to make him even more effective.

This. Statistically, it looks solely like he improved because of it being his second year starting, and barely anything to do with Canada. There isn't a major jump anywhere in his stats except YPA.
I really do hope we have somebody ready to go that's better than Etling though. That guy is straight up average. South Carolina, Alabama, UGA, etc, all bit the bullet for the better of the future. Do people really believe Guice is coming back for a 4th year? Prepare the new guy for 2018, because we are losing a lot off our 2 deep this year on O and D.

Your dad went to Wharton and became a pilot?... Doesn't add up

the ratios for both are just OVER 2 to 1...not under

Unless I have misinterpreted these numbers, there is not a big improvement from one year to the next. The biggest gain seems to be in QB rating and total TDs. Certainly put in the right game 6 add'l TDs would put us in the playoffs.
Any improvement in the offense, though, will be good.

I welcome average qb play at LSU. Baby steps.
