What LSU’s Ed Orgeron said at the SEC Spring Meetings

On communication with the SEC:
How long does it take for a coach to get over a missed call?
On the new offense:
On job security, when you realize you don’t worry about that?:
How close is LSU to Alabama?:
Any update on Kelvin Joseph?:
What went into the decision to recruit nationally?:
And much much more.
LSU’s Ed Orgeron spoke with the media for nearly 20 minutes on Wednesday (May 29) at the SEC Spring Meetings about a wide variety of topics including officiating, new rules, the transfer portal, LSU’s new offense and other assorted things.
quote:
On Sunday after the Texas A&M game, it was a tough game, but you know I called Steve Shaw at 6 o’clock in the morning. I was angry. He answered my question. He answered my phone call. There’s a lot of communication. On our part, it’s been very good.”

quote:
“What happens is, it’s the difference between winning 10 games, 11 games, that’s huge. You gotta forget about it but it affects your season, it affects your fans, it affects your football team. It’s everything.”
On the new offense:
quote:
We’re bringing in the Saints passing game. We have the RPOs from Penn State. Joe’s an up-and-coming coach. He’s done a tremendous job for us. We’re running from the spread but we’re still going to be a physical offense. We’re going to give the ball to our playmakers in space, we’ve got a lot of talent.”

Going to be like watching Drew Brees sling it on the college field

He still has no idea what he wants the offense to be.

Umm, actually he does HATER. They're running the Saints offense (which isn't RPO or spread) from the spread, except they're also incorporating RPO and they're going to be more physical. It's actually going to be better and more exotic than the Saints offense.

If the coaches and players are able to implement a Saints passing game (or even the threat of such a passing game) this team could be scary good.
Of course time will tell, and I'm not buying that bill of goods until I see it with my own eyes in a real-time game setting.

Yeah, if we had an NFL caliber offense we could be pretty good. Bold take.

I’d be erect all fall if we could get 6+ WRs 30+ catches each.
IMO, the WR and QB talent is there. If the scheme is even remotely close to being as advertised, this team can go toe-to-toe with Bama and anyone else for that matter.

I was going for more competent and less predictable than I was NFL caliber.

In your opinion, are the WRs on par with Bowe, Davis, Doucet.
I watched the LSU Notre Dame game replay, with JR slinging it. How we missed making three BCS titles is a mystery. Damn we were talented.
Maybe this group, with +O", will solve the mystery.

What do you mean "able to?" It's been done. No question about it.

I mean I used to feel this way, but the coach says we have the Saints offense now. That's as unambiguous as can be.

IDK how they compare. I do believe that at least six guys on the roster are physically capable of making meaningful contributions next season.
In my earlier post I defined that as 30 catches, but that figure is pretty much arbitrary.

Ree left this out but it's refreshing to see that O gets the fans' cynicism about the offense:
quote:
On the new offense: “I think we finally got the answer that we wanted. It’s taken me several years to get it.

Ree, do you know if Burrow went to the Steve Clarkson Dreammaker Quarterback Retreat in Los Angeles with Tua and Trevor Lawrence?

Seriously. O literally told us that LSU will be running the Saints offense. Some of these nega haters just don't want to accept reality. Oh well, they can just be miserable and go cheer for Bama!
