quote:Bench them for part of the 1st half if they aren't producing. I know they are "scorers", but they mostly don't show up until the 2nd half for some reason. I think you still start them, but cut their 1st half minutes down to 10 in the 1st if necessary.
Benching the only 2 scorers on the team makes perfect sense
You still start them unless CG3 suddenly puts it together.
ETA: Wade benched a struggling Waters to start one game. Lester Earl and I thought it was a good idea, but the board hated it. Whatever it was it worked. Sat the 1st 3 minutes and played the next 37. Had a great game.

You think you're talking to someone else.
You're just full of bullshite imo.

quote:Wade had noticeable deficiencies as a coach. I don't know why his fans can't admit his flaws. It wasn't quite streetball, but there were flaws covered up by the great offensive talent he had for a few years.
That didn't happen, because streetball.
But he benched Waters, who was better than Sears and Carter, or at least more of a central player on the team at the time. It may have been a game or two late, and frankly could have been more than 3 minutes, but it worked.
As it is, we had 12 turnovers in the 1st half and only 3 in the 2nd. Can't do that against other teams. Especially when most of the turnovers were just bad decisions. Turnovers were a big problem with Waters when he got benched too.

Oh he will spend the money all right, but chance of it being a smart hire for now or the future, is very very remote.

Feel free to start a preview thread if anyone actually gives a damn, but tonight's game at Mizzou could present a final chance to keep the season from going off the rails.
Mizzou opens as a 7 point favorite. Like Vandy (and LSU) they are one of the 5 teams in the bottom tier of the SEC in the KenPom ratings. Also like Vandy they have been pretty good offensively, but below average defensively. They played a lot of really bad mid-major team in the non-conf. schedule, but also played Memphis, Kansas and Illinois. They went 1-2 in those games, but all were pretty close and they did get the big one by really dominating Kansas. Point being, while likely not a great team, they are very much capable of playing with (and beating) really good teams. That said, they are coming off a loss at Auburn where they were dominated from beginning to end.
I wouldn't expect a huge crowd. It's well below freezing in COMO, there is a ton of snow on the ground, and classes haven't started yet for the Spring semester. That means the atmosphere likely won't be as raucous as it could be for a visiting team. If LSU loses this one it's really hard to see where the next win comes from with 3 of the next 4 being on the road (at Ole Miss, A&M, Alabama). LSU will play Arkansas at home next Tuesday. But even if they get that one, with a loss tonight a 1--5 start before Auburn comes to the PMAC is a very real possibility.
If LSU can somehow win tonight they stop the bleeding a bit and give themselves some hope of maybe beating Arkansas at home and splitting road games at Ole Miss and A&M before losing at Alabama. That would get them to a 3-3 start and at least keep them in the fight. Lose tonight, and its going to become increasingly tougher for the staff to get this group to play with confidence.
Because no one in the media appears to give enough of a shite about the basketball program to ask, I'm curious to see if Damion Collins plays. He exited the Vandy game at the 11 minute mark of the second half and remained on the bench the rest of the game while Robert Miller provided essentially 11 useless minutes of weak defense, no rebounding, and generally just getting in the way on offense while Vanderbilt punked LSU on the offensive glass en route to second chancing their way to a win. Were Collins and Fountain physically unable to play in the second half? Or did McMahon just think getting dominated on the glass was his best path to victory? VJ Miller had a tough 1st half, but he's been your biggest spark off the bench all season. He played less than 2:00 in the second half. Did McMahon decide the possibility of having his best bench scorer get hot in the 2nd half was too much of a risk to attain victory? Or maybe he was confused as to which Miller was on the floor which is why Robert got so many minutes in the second half?

What LSU MBB needs to do
Accept that LSU will never be a consistent player in basketball, and that's ok.

I was looking at the schedule this morning to see when tipoff was tonight - 8pm - and we really need to step it up and take advantage of the next 3 games or we may go 0fer January.
