re: What is your optimal JL/JJ split?

I'm basing my opinion on how JL looks right now, compared to the "deer in the headlights" look we're all too familiar with from the last two years.
The evidence is in the results. The two QB system is benefiting both QB's. The rationale of questioning the staff's competence has reached it's sell-by date.
What we have going now is working. No reason to change.

I think what the coaches have been doing so far is fine. Maybe a little less JJ though. Seems to struggle on 2nd possession. Second straight week of a Int on it isn't it?

you're right. He looks totally different THIS YEAR. Like a guy that can take us to great places THIS YEAR.

You are partially right. The evidence does show that both qb's benefit. JJ got in the endzone TWICE against UF because JL drove the team the length of the field. JL started and ran 5 drives. 4 of which end in touchdowns.
So tell me again how JJ is awesome?

A little less Jefferson.
75-80% in favor of Lee.
Jefferson needs to play enough to make our opponents have to spend to time to work on defending it. And, he should start, because so far Lee has played very well after watching the first series.

Brave considering JJ almost cost us the last 2 games

quote:Agreed. Lee seems to benefit from sitting every so often just to slow the game down for him and let him not let his emotions get to him. I also like forcing defenses to prepare for two totally different offenses. But also Lee is the superior player right now and should be taking a large majority of snaps.

How do you know Lee can't be as effective starting? He hasn't had that opportunity.

So, if I win a game with my walk ons... barely, and with a lot of luck then I should say hell with putting the starters in for any game this season?
Or are you assuming that I should continue to play my walk ons, until they make mistakes that might lead to another team in the SEC have a two score lead on me. Then I put the starters in? Then by miracle the starters come back and win the game, then i should give credit to the combination of walk ons and starters, not just the starters that came back and won the game for me?
No metaphors here at all I swear.

I have no problem with him getting the start. But we do have two years worth of data before this season on Lee, and he has been a player who has ridden the motional roller coaster. He has played his best football when rotating in, first for Hatch now for Jefferson. Maybe he can take 100% of the snaps, but he does seem to benefit just taking the occassional breather.
Besides, there is a benefit to running essentially two offenses, making defenses prepare for that. So I don't know if giving Lee 100% of the snaps is worth the risk of sacrificing the known benefits. Jefferson played his best game as well last week. I still think Lee should have the majority of the snaps, by a large margin, but I do see a benefit to the zone read offense under Jefferson.

I'm not arguing that Jefferson should get situational snaps, but I also don't see why Lee shouldn't get an opportunity to start and take most of the snaps. Including leading every drive.

You really don't.
What we do know is that he has been incredibly effective coming off the bench and that Jefferson's play has improved with Lee playing more snaps.
Why change something that's working?
Posted on 10/12/10 at 1:16 pm to josh336
Of course not, but you also believe that Jefferson is a terrible player who adds no value. So obviously you wouldn't advocate Jefferson getting a series. I don't share that view, so I'm fine with Jefferson getting one or two series a half plus some situational plays.
but I DO think Lee should start and take most of the snaps and said so in this thread. I just don't think he should get ALL of the snaps.

You are basing his improvement on 1 game, where he pretty much threw a pick 6

JJ should come in if Lee gets a broken leg or something
Even that's pushing it
I know...JJ is stealing Shep and Ware's Snaps...
It should be Lee 80% Shep/Ware 20% running the zone read and wildtiger. Thread/

because we have something else that would work better...
Lee 80%/Shep 20% running Zone Read/Wildtiger

Only if you look at half of his play.
His total play looks like this:
vs. Tennessee - 130 total yards 1 TD/2 Int
vs. Florida - 142 total yards 2 TD/1 Int
So in two games, playing 50% of the snaps, he had 272 total yards 3 TDs/3 Ints.
Obviously, you want that Int number to go drastically.

And Jefferson appears to play very poorly after playing in his first series. Why don't we save that series for the 2nd or 3rd quarter and play Lee the rest of the time?
My split: 90 / 10
