I've seen signs. We've had a Top 5 Defense in the early 90's. We had a Top 5 Offense in the late 90's. We cracked the Top 25 for 1 week in 1999, but lost our coach in 2000 and lost momentum. We've beaten Alabama twice at their place. We've beaten Mississippi St twice. We beat Cal, Michigan State, Oklahoma St and Baylor. We've beat 2 teams ranked in the Top 20. We've been to 3 bowl games.

But those "signs" are over a 20 year period. That does not equal being consistently in the Top 25. Most mid major programs can brag about some sort of success over a 20 year period. Now I have no doubt that LTU can be the second best team in LA behind LSU. But any given year it could be Tulane, ULM or ULL as well. But that does not mean any of us will be in the Top 25 consistently. I just don't see it happening for any of the other schools. As much as I would love for it to happen to ULM, I am realistic. Tech has the same aspirations, which is great. But when you get criticized you claim that you are just trying to set higher standards, which is also great. You just can't seem to see that it probably will never happen.

I disagree. Take a look at where the Top 50 players in the state last year went to play:

LINK

By my count, 24 signed with out of state shcools. If we can keep those guys in state, we can have 2 "Top 25" type programs. If Boise St can do it in Idaho, I see no reason why Tech can't do it in Louisiana.

Pretty much scratch the top 15-20, cause they are going to LSU, with a few here and there heading to the USCs & Bamas. So that leaves the next 30. Why would a prospect pick Tech over a TxTech, TCU, MissSt, Kansas or other mid level, major conference teams other than the "stay in state" angle? Then there's the one's that you battle the Tulsas & SMUs for. now if ya'll can keep them from stealing the players that LSU and the other big boys have left for you, then yeah, you could have a nice lil program that consistently kicks ULLs, ULMs, tulanes, and your conference's arse. Year in and year out top 25? not happening. If it does, somebody's stealing your coach. the only reason Boise has been doing it is cause the coach hasn't found the next job yet.

Football in LA is as follows:
1. LSU
2. Tech&Tulane - They can flip flop most years but tech's on top for now
3. ULM & ULL - They can flip flop and some years be better than the 2's.
4. Everybody else with Mcneese leading the way.

Sound about right?

I'm not saying Tech is at the place that they can become a consistent Top 25 program. I'm saying I have seen signs that it is possible to do at Tech.

I have also seen that at Tulane. They had one season where they finished in the Top 10, so it is possible at Tulane with the right coach.

This is where we need to start winning some battles. Keep these guys, and we are TCU, Tx Tech, Kansas, etc...

This is where we think we are right now.

True. Boise has gone through Houston Nutt, Dirk Koetter, and Dan Hawkins and have not skipped a beat. They have a tradition and community that attracts good coaches. We need that tradition and community at Tech.

Its only a small portion of ULL and Tech fans that hate LSU. Theyre just a vocal minority with all the bitching and crying they do.

I saw this article today and thought about this conversation:

"I have received and accepted a lot of awards for country music, but I mean this with all sincerity: the award that means the most to me was the year I got the Alumni of the Year award and when I got to speak at commencement. When I'm in Tennessee, people know I'm from Louisiana and always ask me "How `bout them Tigers?" I always say "I don't care about them Tigers, I care about them Bulldogs!"

Tulane #2 LTU, ULM and ULL#3with others being better in a few years. Unfortunately, Tech is scared to play ULM or ULL leaving us to guess. State should require these games for $.

I just joined and this is the first thread I looked at. I do see why Tech fans SHOULD hate anything we label with LSU. Those people never had the Kingfish steal taxpayer money to build them a bigger stadium. And the LSU budget is more than 10 times their's yet I hear bragging over a 58 to 10 score. They have obviously gotten a far better ROI. We should all learn from LA Tech how to be more efficient. Has LSU put 10 times as many players in the NFL hall of fame as they. Really, looking at their program, LSU fans and state taxpayers should demand a refund. Get some humility!

Yes. I have friends and relatives who have attended, and are attending both of our state's top two schools and have been to games at both and cheered for both. When one sees what little they have to work with, their accomplishments are impressive.

My take in Tech is that if the tax payers have to foot their sports budget, they need to move back down to 1-AA as should ULaLa and U"BM" (whoops! ULM) instead of blowing money traveling all over the country getting the crap kicked out of them. They will never play with the big boys day in and day out. Your smaller state schools could save a lot of money by playing each other and perhaps even revive some of the old rivalries. The last time I looked, LSU is the only public school in this state that does not depend upon the tax dollars for their budget. It is time for these other boys to start economizing.

No LSU is not. LSU is one of LA's college teams. The Saints are the only team that can be called Louisiana's team.

bullshite!! The Saints have fricked up more times than Carters has liver pills and it has been that way for the most part since 1967. Granted, people go there and cheer them on. But the truth be known, the REAL football team is sitting a little over 60 miles upstream. The Saints lose, few actually give a shite. Let LSU frick one up and the state has the shits for the entire week. Let them screw up too many, and the coach is escorted to the gallows. No doubt about it: LSU IS LOUISIANA'S TEAM!

The thread seems to be complaining that LT fans hate LSU, but the posting suggest the opposite to be the real case. The post right above your last one for example, what is with that? Is that typical of this site or is that guy outside the norm? If you you have no respect for their program then I will not waste time on this thread, but I see both schools bringing notariety to LA. I was out in CA a while back and on two occassions when LSU was mentioned someone thought we were talking about LT. They may be more well known in that area (only).

To explain the refund remark (which was a bit over the top), LSU realy does have and spend more than 10 time what LT has/spends, so if LSU was as efficient the score should have been 10 x their score or 100. In the end we just look at an L or a W, but we sure spend a lot more for the points we score than they do. They also have the smallest budget in the WAC and still manage to represent LA positively over a very large area.

I used an analogy earlier about Tech being a convenient store next to the Wal Mart that is LSU. It is OK for the majority to prefer Wal Mart over our little store, but it should piss you off to see your family going to Wal Mart too. Make sense? That's where the resentment for LSU comes from.

Then you need to be pissed off at your own "family" and fans. Don't have a resentment toward LSU. It's not their fault.

Take a look at what that DaSalty is posting. I can't believe he ever set foot in a university, and if he did, I certainly hope it wasn't LSU. Because he's and embarrasment and adds validity to the claims made by those people from Notre Dame who said they would never return to our state because of the treatment they received from LSU students and fans. I think it is great that those types spend their money on LSU plates for their pickups and all, but their behavior does harm.
