I think Les (and some fans) is content with just having a winning season. Just to be a contender and mediocre (have a winning record). Mediocre people are OK with being mediocre. True champions demand perfection and do not settle for just a winning record. I will say this- Miles can def. pull the talent to LSU, and I would hate to loose him for that reason.

AMEN to everything you said.
It seems like Miles has gotten somewhat cocky with success and needs to be taken down a few notches, but that won't happen at $4.4 MILLION a year!!!

QB play. Plain and simple. Our failure at the QB position handed others the NC's. If we are even adequate at QB we have multiple rings. Do nothing but flip AJ Mc to us and give Bama Lee and JJ and we win 2 and they win none.
Just look at this year? This team with the 09, 10, 11 or 12 defense isn't touched because we had adequate QB play.

It gives me a deep belly laugh when I see guys wasting their time on a message board talk about demanding perfection of others!

If you want to see a mediocre person, look in your mirror.

Right cause Les is JUST the winningest coach in LSU history
Les JUST has one of the best win % in the conference history
I'm sure he JUST got that with mediocre 7-5 or 7-6 barely winning seasons

Thank you. People have been throwing this word around for years on here. It's a shame they didn't look up its meaning first. But then I guess when you have an agenda, truth and objectivity aren't high on the list of priorities.

you've made your point abundantly clear many times on several threads....do you think people are going to magically change their perception based on this one statement thrown at them over and over???? :beatdeadhorse:

We are the Texas football program counterpart.
We have a recruiting base that will normally adequately fill all coffers to make its team bigger, faster, and stronger than the majority of its conference counterparts.
Yet, somehow a deep dysfunction pervades the culture of the team translating into several unexpected losses a year.
It took Nick Saban's hiring in 2000 to 'light a fire in the arse' and finally show what this program is capable of.

How can people be this stupid?
10 win seasons are mediocre?
There are a bunch of teams that would love to be a contender for the National Championship every single season. LSU is one of a very few schools that can even pretend to be in that category.
Yeah, there are a ton of undefeated teams out there right now.
Lose. The correct word is lose.
Our fan base is so full of stupid.

This bullshite of "Playing down".
Being Spoiled!
Since when do we rate to NOT care about anything less than a BCS Bowl Game?
We need an attitude adjustment.

It's strength and conditioning. We are not quick enough to fear our speed(ie Oregon) and we are not strong enough to over power teams like Alabama. We are tweeners, and that's why we beat Auburn and aTm. Also why we faded against Alabama @ Tuscalousa and struggled with Arkansas. College football had become the NFL, all about matchups

I disagree that we are as talented as any other team in the country. Take off your P&G glasses. Let's look at position by position and see if we are as or more talented than any other team in the country:
QB: could argue yes, but probably not
RB: yes
TE: no
OL: no
WR: yes
FB: could argue yes
DL: hell no
LB: hell no
CB: could argue yes (in terms of pure talent and where TW & RR will be one day)
Safety: no
By my account, we are as talented or more talented in only 2, maybe 5 out of 10 positions.
I'm not saying that's bad, but it baffles me how people think we are just as talented in every position.

We aren't as bad as Texas, but I see where you are going. We darn near could compete for titles year in and year out if we landed all of the stud recruits in Louisiana.
Texas has the same thing going for them....a fertile recruiting bed within their home state. We don't have the volume of recruits within our state as Texas, but we also don't have any other in state colleges that are competing with us to land those vaunted recruits.
Anyway, I think most get frustrated with the conservative, play it close to the vest, play down to your competition, non-innovative offensive ways, goofy personality, and poor game management decisions that Les Miles is famous for.
Miles is a decent coach that lands superior talent. Sometimes we win, in spite of him. With that said, he deserves credit for getting the recruits on campus. I won't deny him that.
I don't know if people truly realize how insanely great the recruiting base is in Louisiana. An innovative, great coach could do wondrous things here.
Most people will translate what I'm saying as a bash on Miles. I'm not bashing, but I don't view him as en elite coach. I will give him credit for the recruits that he is brought into LSU. As I stated above, he is a decent coach (Top 20-15 coach), that wins with superior talent.

Watching that game, I thought we lost because our QB made three bad decisions in the first half that resulted in three turnovers. I didn't realize that it was a deep permeating dysfunction in the culture of our team.
Also, I guess one unexpected loss a year = several unexpected losses per year.
