its one thing to say he may not be high rated before the combine

but to say with a great combine that it wont vault his status up into the top half of the first round is kind of crazy.

if he is 250 and runs a great 40, 3-4 teams are going to drool about the possibility of putting him on the outside. He'd even have a strong appeal to 4-3 team as a DE.

based on what?

With more PT and game film on him he certainly could slip into the #1 spot next year.

1 year of domination wasn't enough?

and being the #1 DE is somewhat irrelevant. 9 DEs went in the first round last year. 10 if you count von miller (who is essentially a DE)

Lets say he measures 6'3" 250, and runs a 4.55

where do you think he goes?

nobody is guaranteeing he's the #1 DE

you laughed at him going in the top half of the 1st

essentially SIX DEs (i'm going to change the term to pass rushers/DEs) went in the first 16 picks last year

miller
dareus
smith
watt
quinn
kerrigan

As much as I love Sam we are very deep at end. We can make it without him as Rasco and Maclin have a similar frame/athleticism. Brockers on the other hand Im worried about. Most of our d tackles seem to have the smaller penetrating build not the mountain block eating DT type that brockers is.
I trust Brick (most underrated guy on our staff) but if we lose both of those guys we might have some trouble on the d line

i think brockers has the build of a 1-gap DT. he's only 300 lbs at 6-5. that's as big as tyson jackson

he will have an incredible combine. I watched the Arkansas game earlier today and didnt see it at first but the 66 yard play Hamilton broke down the sideline Sonic Sam was almost matching him stride for stride and Hamilton is a speedster. I watched that play five times in a row i couldnt believe how fast Sam was, and thats off that freak injury last year.

If he is healthy at the end of the year and a 1st or mid 2nd round pick he would be pretty smart to make the jump. No reason to risk a second injury.

Means absolutely nothing. Last year was loaded with DE, opposite this year.

i don't see a huge difference other than no von miller

it's a value thing. DEs are finally being seen as being more valuable, so more are getting drafted earlier

just like why ingram fell to the late 1st round. RBs are not valuable

He dominated last year before he got hurt also. Our D really wasn't the same after because Nevis was the only other guy that could pressure the QB.
