My perfect season would be an undefeated LSU playing an undefeated USC in Pasadena for the title.

what your calling spin im calling a fair assesment. and what you presented as a hypothetical scenario i'd still regard as a fair assement.

In reality if you had to rank the LSU and USC teams based on those scenarios they would be 7-8s out of 10. Media would make it out to be

USC was a 2 that year while LSU was a 9.5.

also USC only throws the ball, and Arky has never had a stellar pass defense. Carroll was just running up the score like a

True, but at least they wouldn't be able to use the home field advantage excuse.

I think you underestimate the effect a player that dynamic has on a team. When your opponent knows you wont be using your main weapon it neutralizes a lot of what you can do, and cuts down on what the D needs to focus on.

I know the two scores were something like 70-17 and 50-14. I dont recall if Arky was full strength for either of those games. But you gotta admit that USC sure handled them better than anyone else those years.

The numbers are just used for ratings purposes. 1 being a very, very bad team/very, very bad year and 10 being a very, very good year/very, very good team.

In reality, those records and this years circumstances would probably put LSU at a 7 or 8 (improved from last year, but still not living up to top potential). USC would also prob be a 7 or 8 (a few losses, PAC 10 Champ., but still not top notch USC).

Media would procalim LSU is back and probably a 9, while they would claim USC had a terrible, down year and make you think they are at the level of a 2.

Let USC run through 4 SEC teams in a row during the regular season, then have them play Arkansas. They still win, I'm sure, but not as bad as they did in an opening game.

it sounds to me like your just against the media trying to explain why one team lost to another team.

last year i heard plenty of talking heads explain that lsu lost because they had a freshman qb.

This is probably the truth. Plus, USC is really still living off the 2004-2005 teams. Last few years they've been very good, but not extraordinary. Esp on offense. I think Florida is definitely the team to beat right now with TX and Ok up there too, and USC is jsut not at that level but the media hasnt recognized that yet.

Not against them explaining a loss, just against them downplaying the accomplishment, when the teams are more than likely equal.

Last year's LSU team was bad. A 10-2 Pac 10 champ in USC would not be on that same level.

I can only see 2 realistic scenarios where we play against Southern Cal:

a) BCSCG. If this happens, the winner's strength will not accomplishment. Not very likely to happen. After what happened last year, I suspect the voters will bend over backwards to help Texas into the big game. So that leaves 1 spot, which all know the winner of the second LSU vs Florida game.

b) USC doesn't win the Pac-10, and thus doesn't go to the Rose Bowl. If SC doesn't win their conference, they will have had a down year and the media will mention that.

Are there even any Bowl tie ins that would allow this to happen? I can't remember the PAC 10 and the SEC playing in Bowl Games.

You haven't a clue as what you are talking about. USC has been left out of the NC game in favor of SEC teams the past two years when they had the same number of losses as the SEC champion. If this was such a grand conspiracy, USC would have at least been ranked in the final regular season polls in the top 2 (ahead of the SEC champ). This didn't happen either year. In fact, LSU jumped several spots in 2007 in the final regular season poll.

USC does get a lot of media attention, but they have gone to 7 straight BCS games and won 6 of them (and made the 6 wins look easy). Maybe, just maybe, they have a pretty good program out there in LA.

The Rose and Holiday never have SEC teams, so USC would have to fall pretty low.

Nothing good can come of a meeting between LSU & usc at this point, other than a BCS NC game. The matchup was in 03', LSU did what it had to do to be where it was, usc didn't. LSU played in THE NC game, usc didn't. LSU WON THE NC, usc didn't. An 04 or maybe even an 05 matchup would have been alright but the matchup that mattered, 03, never happened, therefore any other matchup won't be nearly as satisfying for anyone. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to play usc & whip those left coast pansies but it is very unlikely to happen unless usc really has a down year & gets knocked away from their regular pac 10 bowl assignments. Of course, if that happens, the media will go on & on & on about how usc is down & how luck LSU was/is to be playing them now instead of in 03, blah blah blah blah blah. The only statement LSU can make v/s usc will have to come in a BCS NC game, all other efforts will be greased over by the media. FUSC, we know who we are & we know who we play & we KNOW who the NC was in 03, why do WE need usc? Let em' stay on the left coast, I've got no use for em', unless they are standing in the way of ANOTHER NC!

USC woulda smoked LSU in 2004 pretty bad. Tigers were good in 2005, that woulda been a better game.
