bradshaw was a freakish athlete. bradshaw's was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth his daddy was a welder. they moved to ohio when he was a kid and later moved back to shreveport before he went to woodlawn. bradshaw wanted to go to lsu but his act score sucked so he settled for la tech. bradshaw had A.D.D as he later found out in his life. hels state record for ever throwing the javelin. truly a decent man

Shreveport, a city of roughly 200 k, and even smaller back then, has produced 3 starting Super Bowl qbs. Bradshaw (Woodlawn), Woodley (Byrd), Humphries (Southwood). Pretty impressive. And a pretty good one in Joe Ferguson, too, also a Woodlawn guy.

My Dad was a Coach at Bossier High School when Bradshaw and Ferguson were at Woodlawn.

Joe Ferguson beat Bossier in the last few seconds in the playoffs two years in a row.

Shreveport area playd some good football in those days.

Hasnt seemed to produce as many college players lately.

Was a good area for LSU back then.

Still is i guess. Hester is a hard nose player who gives all he has every play.

Did you all hear the terrible story out of Shreveport Yesterday, this is serious heard it on the Don Imus show on MSNBC. Last year they named one of the loops in Shreveport the Terry Bradshaw Passway. Well it seems there was an accident on the Passway and it got all out of hand that Terry Had passed away. Being that Terry is on The Imus
show each friday someone called MSNBC because there was no other way anyone could reach Terry.
Well MSNBC had some numbers for Terry and he was finely located in Mexico on vacation. Really a bad error made but a good ending. At heart Terry is a good man, and I like him alot. He donated a lot of his and awards including his Super Bowl rings to La. Tech for their trophy case is what I am told.

Bradshaw broke the national record for the javelin while competing in a track meet at Fair Park in high school.

I met Bradshaw in 1977 when I was nine years old at Independence Stadium in Shreveport while he was doing some commercial shoot. I idolized him and the Steelers as did many Shreveporters at that time. My mom and dad checked me out of school to meet him. One of the nicest people you could ever meet. I was awestruck because this was right in the middle of the Steeler's four year Super Bowl run in the late 70's. I still have the picture somewhere. Class guy. He has a farm in Grand Cane just south of Shreveport and is definitely a country boy. Previous poster is right that he held the national javelin record in HS.

Actually I believe Terry set the National HS Javelin record as a Jr in HS. He did not throw his senior year because he hurt his arm.

He signed with LA. Tech due to grades. Also, Bert Jones (not a bad QB) from Ruston had signed with LSU that year.

As you know Terry went on to be the Number 1 pick in the 1970 draft from La. Tech. At that time, La Tech was a Div 2 school. It may have been the only time a Div 2 school had the No. 1 pick.

Bert Jones last year at LSU was 72-73....Bradshaw, who is 3 yrs older than Jones, played his last season at Tech during the 69-70 school year. They did NOT come out of high school the same year unless
Bert pulled a JD Booty but as a Freshman in high school.

well, at that time he lived on the southern edge of Shreveport, still border line country living at that time, i believe, at least it was for us that lived in the subdivisions closer in town.

He grew up in Grand Cane, a rural area outside of the Shreveport city limits at the time but still inside the Caddo Parish school zone for Woodlawn.

At the time of HS I thought Bradshaw lived about two miles south of Oak Terrace JH, I might be incorrect, Grand Cane is on down the road a bit. Bert Jones graduated the same year as Joe Ferguson, not Bradshaw.

it was Trey Prather, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, Johnny Booty, and then WHS went downhill.

before Trey was.....??? another great one that I cant remember right now...

To clarify this statement a little bit. He did grow up in Grand Cane, but then his family moved to S'port where he went to Jr. High and High School. Grand Cane is about 30 miles south of S'port and is in Desoto Parish not Caddo, so he had to move to S'port to play at woodlawn.

Actually, I thought Prather came between Bradshaw and Ferguson. I grew up in Shreveport and my uncle and my mom went to Woodlawn during this era. My uncle used to say that Prather was better than all of them.
