What happened on Day 4?
LSU took to the outdoor fields on Tuesday afternoon but only for a brief time. One clap of thunder and the team headed indoors for the rest of the day.

Here's a look at what went down for the Tigers during their second day in pads.

Ja'Marr Chase in gold, but stands out
LSU wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase wore a gold non-contact jersey but was among the standouts during the period open to the media.

Chase led off his wide receiving group in reps and continues to look the part of a college receiver.

Wide receivers were splint into two groups. Some with Sullivan and some with Joseph.

Video - Well, here's a very close look at Justin McMillan hitting Ja'Marr Chase at the sideline

Here's a look at how the LSU defensive line split reps:

First group: Rashard Lawrence and Breiden Fehoko

Second group: Glen Logan and Neil Farrell

Third group: Nelson Jenkins and Tyler Shelvin

Fourth group: Davin Cotton and Dominic Livingston

quote:

The linebacker group

First group: K'Lavon Chaisson (B) and Michael Divinity (F)

Second group: Andre Anthony (B) and Ray Thornton (F)

Third group: Travez Moore (B) and Dantrieze Scott (F)

Fourth group: Jarell Cherry (B) and Cameron Prudhomme (F)

quote:

Kary Vincent told reporters on Monday that the pecking order at cornerback hadn't been decided yet

ere's what it looked like Tuesday:

First group: Greedy Williams and Vincent

Second group: Kelvin Joseph and Jontre Kirklin

Third group: Kristian Fulton and Terrence Alexander

quote:

Stevens has good reps

While the safeties worked through drills, new LSU safeties coach Bill Busch had high praise for JaCoby Stevens.

"That's a college football rep!" Busch yelled after Stevens finished one drill.

quote:

Absences

Defensive tackle Ed Alexander, running back Tae Provens, linebacker Micah Baskerville and cornerback Mannie Netherly were not on the field during the 20 minutes open to the media.

Rain forced LSU back indoors for day four, as players remained in shoulder pads and helmets for the 25 minutes of media availability during individual drills.

Some general obersvations from a relatively benign half-hour:

Ja’Marr Chase appeared to be the only non-quarterback in a gold non-contact jersey, but the freshman showed no signs of injury running routes.

Video - QBs throwing to WRs

quote:

Sullivan continues to harp on the finer points of footwork in and out of breaks with his players, and Joseph worked on getting off jams at the line of scrimmage.

The timing of the passing game impressed me. Sure, it was on air, but quarterbacks were releasing the balls before receivers finished their breaks and making accurate throws. I only counted one dropped pass.

quote:

Elsewhere on offense, we finally saw some fullback/H-back sets for the first time this fall. Tory Carter, David Ducre, and a couple of walk-ons repped that position.

quote:

IS THAT AN OFFSET I-FORMATION I SEE?

Looks like Tory Carter is the first-string fullback, when #LSU utilizes one

quote:

it appears Adrian Magee is leading the battle at right tackle. If I had to wager a a guess, the line would look like this:

LT: Charles/Traore

LG: Brumfield/Hines

C: Cushenberry/Smith

RG: Lewis/Campbell

RT: Magee/Deculus

quote:

Finally, a small note from the running backs, who were working with all-time LSU leading rusher Kevin Faulk today. Seems like a pretty decent guy to learn a thing or two from

Wide receivers

Is it me or compared to the last few years, our receivers haven't been dropping many balls in the practice videos? I've only seen a couple of dropped balls and everyone seems to be catching with their hands.

Chase would have been a player, had he gone elsewhere, that we would all look back on with anguish for not signing. Glad he is a Tiger, he is about to be a star.

I'm certainly expecting better wide receiver play this year. Isn't that why the coaching change was made?

The last couple of years we couldn’t complete passes against air in practice. I remember one of the coaches saying it looks like we will only run one route until they could complete that.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Over the past 4-5 years, the fall camp was marked with poorly thrown balls and drops. This year looks light years better so far!!!

That looks like just the Fs and the Bucks. ILBs are a different group

Potentially a very strong group. Other than Greedy, they just need some live game reps to get comfortable.

Better be. We have two WR coaches and a shite load of talent.

Yes and no. When they fired Canada and promoted E they had another spot available on staff.

O decided to bring in Jerry Sullivan as a passing game coordinator

Basically Jerry is the WR coach and Mickey recruits NOLA.

Dear Athletic Dept,

Please reformat your approach.

This is painful and embarrassing.

Thanks,

Everyone

Interested to see if Stevens makes it on the field. LSU is very deep at safety.
