I saw he worked out for the Saints, but did anything come of it? I was rooting for the guy, and wanted him on the team since Lord knows the Saints could use some safety help.

I was wondering the same thing. Haven't heard anything about it. Maybe the rant can shed some light.

If there was some to shed I'm sure they would have by now.

If his flame has gone out on an NFL career, I sure hope he regains his love for baseball and dedicates himself to possibly becoming a saver.

IMHO, most don't make the NFL even when in top lifetime health and form, I just couldn't imagine he could overcome that leg issue to be an NFL safety.

One of my all time greats at LSU.

ps One of the best hits I've seen in 20+yrs in TS was his against Arky where the refs frickED him with one of the worst calls I've ever seen. It was so good they felt they HAD to throw a flag out of sympathy for the downed Hog!

No news is bad news in this situation. I have a feeling that reality might have set in.

I have to believe a gimped up Chad Jones is still better than a healthy Roman Harper though.

re: How did Chad Jones' Saints workout go? (Posted on 2/2/13 at 5:22 p.m. to Froman)
Per BDuhon on the Saints board:
quote:
I have a buddy that works in the facility (this is my contact I used for some of my 2012 training camp posts) that says he looks fast and quick in cuts, showed good hands on deep balls with his back to the passer. At one point they had him run the length of the field as if he were on special teams and swarm the ball; he did well in the drill by staying in his lane and swarming to the ball. The only negative he could see was the burst off the line and initial physical contact with a reciever, in that at times Chad seemed lost and slow. Both of those things will take time to come back to his natural talents once he sees playing and practice time. Loomis, Payton, and a few defensive players were in house today and stayed for the workout.

Ive got him with a slight wobble to the injured side as well, likely due to amibivalent nanofractures (short leg on one side). This type of injury tends to linger and is typically treated via proctoclysis (rehydration through the a-hole).

This!

As much as I absolutely loved that hit and I will NEVER forget it there is no doubt in my mind that was a by the books penalty. Jones absolutely went for the KILL with the game on the line, if he hadn't dude would have scored a go ahead TD.

Hope he gets a shot at a camp this summer!

Last update March 11, 2013 per WAFB: Must not have worked out with Saints i guess...

Two years after a car crash that left Chad Jones with life-threatening injuries, the LSU star is attempting another comeback in the NFL.

This time it's with the Philadelphia Eagles, a rival of the team that drafted him, the New York Giants. Jones was the Giants third round pick in the 2010 draft, but was released this year when he was unable to pass a physical and has been out of football all season.
Although doctors let Jones know early that he would never play football again, that has not stopped him from continuing to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL.

The Eagles are looking to next year and seeing just what Chad Jones has to offer the team.
Jones told USA Today by phone, "I was actually pumped. I think a little more came out of me, just being in that atmosphere. I actually think I turned it up to another level."

"My footwork is much better, I'm getting in and out of my breaks, I'm stronger, my legs are much stronger, conditioning is better," Jones told USA Today. "I'm about 50 percent more from where I was when I was with the Giants (in the spring). I feel great." Jones is hoping to make the Eagles roster next year, which depends not only on his health, but the future of head coach Andy Reid.

I'll always remember the punt return against State and his intimidation on the mound in the CWS in Omaha!

Nope the rule at that point was no HELMET-TO-HELMET contact. THe refs called that he led with the helmet (he did not,it was a shoulder hit). The Hog dropped his helmet out of fear.

It is def a penalty now, but back then was the first year of the new rule and it was different.

I think he is stuck on fb, but if he would just consider baseball, I know there would be so much more opportunity to develop within the minor league system, than there is with football

i don't think he's gonna make a team in the League. good thing is he can be a regular guy and can do a lot of things. he's damn lucky.
