So, LSU "rightfully belongs" in the top 2 or 3 teams in the SEC because we have as many tournament appearances, Final Fours and Sweet Sixteens since 1993 as Virginia Commonwealth and George Mason, and less appearances than Butler?

Got it.

Don't let reality get in the way of your imagination.

With the right coach we can get in there. Especially when by your logic that is the level of MSU. The SEC is not a basketball conference. So yes being in the top 3 at least top 5 is a VERY realistic goal. This isnt the Big east or the ACC. A good coach with a good personality can turn around basketball quick. Just look at Callipari even pre Kentucky. Look at Bruce Pearl. Bob Huggins. Basketball can be turned around quick if you have the right guy.

Don't be so sure this will be the case...

I could see Turner moving to the 2 and Morgan playing the 3 (or vice versa) to start next season with Stringer coming off the bench.

I agree with everything you said though

I also like the idea of Stringer coming off the bench if we have the pieces to allow it. It is done on tons of teams in both NCAA and NBA. You have a sharp shooter you can bring in and sit around the 3 pt line. That's exactly what Stringer should be. Not tire his legs trying to play for 35 minutes, just play him for stretches where he can shoot it up.

Sagarin conference ratings this season:

1. Big 10
1a. Big 12
3. Big East
4. SEC
5. ACC

There's more numbers to frick up your opinion.

So, we can vacate all of our accomplishments like Memphis and UMass (and Kentucky probably), have a coach that's not allowed to recruit for three years after he gets hired somewhere, or hire a notorious alcoholic who recruited dropouts and criminals to Cincinnati. How could that plan fail?

And why IN THE frick would a Calipari type coach come TO THE WORST TEAM IN THE SEC?

Maybe we should see if we can get Coach K or Roy Williams.

There is only 5 people on a basketball court at any given time. Its not hard to turn a basketball team around very quickly with decent recruiting.

Your arguments are very hard to follow.

Then why has it taken Trent Johnson 5 years to chase crappy-to-mediocre? Now you are refuting your own points...

Thats what Im saying...we should be expecting more out of TJ by this point....an elite coach would have it back by now IMO, but with a pick up of Gathers and NIT I dont think its time to fire him...yet

Im not saying we should hire those...(even though I do think if we are still wandering we should hire pearl after his show cause expires) but they are examples of what elite coaches can do....Each of those guys got their big break somewhere....could we hire Callipari right now? Hell no....could we hire the next Pearl...maybe...just gotta find him

THAT WAS TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO.

If you think the college basketball landscape is REMOTELY similar to 1988....... I really, really feel for you.

It would explain a lot, though.

Actually LSU's all time team would easily beat Kentucky's.

ESPN did a simulation and LSU lost in the Final Four to UNC but I believe won the game in the sim but lost on the fan voting.

Try this on for size not ESPN's but one I think would be better if it actually had to play together.

PG- Ethan Martin
SG- Pete Maravich
SF - Rudy Macklin
PF - Bob Petit
C - Shaq

Bench
G-Chris Jackson
G - Willie Sims
G - Derrick Taylor
G - Howard "Hi-C" Carter
F - Ricky Blanton
F - Leonard Mitchell
F - Dewayne "The Astronaut" Scales
F - John Williams
C - Greg "The Cookieman" Cook (great enforcer)
C - Stanley Roberts or Jose Vargas
Last man off the bench/fan favorite -
"Disco" Duane DeArmond

So to you, we could not be one of the 65 teams 8 of 10 years ?

Since when has the NCAA Tournament been the best 65 (68) teams? When, please I'd love to know that answer?

There are 31 auto bids, so basically half the field is made up of conference tourney and regular season champs (Ivy).

So it's not about being in the top 68 it's more like being in the top 37, assuming we don't win the SEC tournament (which btw has happened exactly one time ever).

Being in the top 37 in today's NCAA is tough to do year in and year out for anyone not named Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Syracuse, UCONN, etc.

I wonder if this is what Rutgers, Northwestern and Iowa State football fans are like?

OK, we get it already. You're OK w/ mediocrity.

IMO we should strive for making the NCAA tourny 7 out of 10 years.

And the NIT at a minimum the other 3.

I don't think those are unreasonable goals.

we should never win less than 7 conference games. I think and hope Trent will get us to that level. The last 2 years sucked but if we get 7 or 8 wins this year and Gathers it'll be looking good.

So you think that we should not be on the national scene at all? I simply said relevant nationally. 7-8 NCAAs out of 10....Im not asking for national championships...Just be in the tourney on a regular basis...theres plenty of programs who do this who arent top 10 programs as you claim.
